I have plenty of years left I hope to own a unibody vehicle. Until then, I am going to enjoy this truck for its poor handling, numb steering, wind noise, engine noise, and clumsy ride - Everything a real truck should be.

Like almost every single cross over, they're fwd with AWD (fwd bias) option.

The Ridgeline’s maximum payload of 1584 pounds virtually ties that of the segment-leading and recently redesigned Colorado, while its 5000-pound tow rating brings up the rear of the class. (And that’s only for all-wheel-drive models; front-drivers are rated to tow 3500 pounds.)

The RT, RTS, Sport, RTL, and RTL-T trim levels are offered with either front- or all-wheel drive (an $1800 upcharge), while the RTL-E and Black Edition are strictly all-wheel drive.

***Most TacoBros have no clue what wheel drive their trucks are....

I picked up an '18 sport 2 weeks ago (2wd access cab though). I was a bit worried based on a lot of complaints about tranny issues too, but seems fine so far.

Picked it up with 3 miles on the odometer and three days later went on a short road trip (~200mi round trip). The breaking did seem to jerk a bit around 25mph, but I chalked that up to coming from driving a 2005 civic. A week later, I went on a ~400mi round trip and the shifting seemed fine even in cruise control and the breaking felt smoother.

Maybe I'm just biased, because I've wanted a Tacoma for 10+ yrs and was finally able to get one, but to each their own. Best you can do is test drive and be prepared to walk away if it isn't doing it for you.

Veggtaco, what part of the country are you in? If possible, I would recommend renting a TRAC (Toyota Rent A Car) Tacoma for a few days. My dealership usually keeps two of them in stock for rental. They are usually lower models that are 2WD (they learned their lesson renting 4x4s), but you may get a better idea if this is something you really want.

i did same thing and took it out many times. Im in a 16 Colorado now but should be in Tacoma by end of month. I had no issues with the trans the way it worked and ill be on hyw a lot. But i agree test drive first and tell them you want to drive it for at lease 20 to 30 miles.

Coming from a 2003 Chevy Avalanche Z71 that I drove since new to a 2017 TRD OR DC I had the same concern. I test drove a Sport an OR and a used OR with a lift, after market exhaust, etc. The magna-flow exhaust amplified the transmission searching for gears. Went back and drove a new OR again and bought it. I came into it knowing the power and transmission are much different from the V-8 power the Avy had. I do believe the transmission has improved, now that I have put some miles on it, and probably have just gotten use to it. I personally like the fact I can drive like the old man that I am and get good mileage, but If I am in a hurry it will respond. I'm completely happy with my purchase. The transmission is different, but I think its blown out of proportion. My 2 cents.

Have you considered a manual transmission? I know some people prefer autos but the manual seems to have a lot less complaints from owners. I love my M/T.

I know I spent a week pissed off at my autotrans and drove it accordingly. It responded by shifting better and smoother . So maybe you just have to show these trucks whose boss and tame them or I broke something.

Get an extended or overnight test drive and drive it on roads you normally drive on, that way you will be sure if you like it before dropping the cash.

Yeah they are, base model is Front Wheel Drive and the AWD version is just built off that, kinda like the Pontiac Aztek was laid out.

I would consider it then also if I needed a new truck.

Had the TSB done on mine almost 2 years ago and not one problem since. 22K miles and runs fine.

    Get another F150 bud..

    They cost the same..!

I'm satisfied with my truck... I came from a 1500 Sierra... And it was a big change.. One I thought about for a very long time..

This version of the Tacoma is like a car....

I can say, my transmission hasn't done anything out of the ordinary over 19,000km..

It has its quirks.. But I'm used to it now.

And the seat and the way my legs are its like I'm in a Lambo compared to the 1500..lol

I need something smaller. I have bush property with logging roads and I want access with a vehicle instead of using the four wheeler all the time..

So I have reasons to switch to a small truck.. Fuel mileage is better than 1500, but not enough to make it a primary reason to switch...

If you have no reason to switch from a half ton to a quarter ton...lol Don't do it as I feel you will regret it.

Like it sucks having to have a trailer...lol... I miss my reg cab 8ft box a lot..I can tell you that...
