Discussing it yesterday in the GFC thread, I said that I didn't like pop up because I associate those with tent trailers or ones like the 4WC where all four corners raise. I'm a fan of Westfalia Type (or Wedge-falia!), but Wedge was a good compromise.

    Anyway, just my thoughts.

Another very nice and neat camper is offered by fiftyten. They use the tray/flatbed system and I like it way better than the FWC flatbed, which is huge and too heavy for a Tacoma IMO.
They recently launched their product in Germany and I don't know if they're going to offer it in the US at this point. I would see quite a market for it though, there're way more pickup trucks in North America than in Europe. With the flatbed you can still haul all your crap during the week and install the camper on Friday, already packed and ready to go. I like that idea.

I personally love my flippac. Especially the standing room inside the bed when deployed. I havent had any issues with the torsion bar so far, but I believe that could have to do with the fact the flippac has lived in AZ its whole life and doesnt get much corrosion and stays very dry the majority of the time.

Using the rainfly is a non-issue for me, I can deploy the tent with rainfly on in about 30 seconds from the time its parked to fully operational. I like to attach the rainfly to the lid, and when flipped open, it covers the tent at the same time. No issues doing it solo.

I do have a problem with getting replacement parts, I destroyed my rear window/frame on my flippac and its not looking possible to get a replacement from any manufacturer at this time. (Contacted every cap dealer in AZ). So that sucks. I will be attempting to do a custom window and frame in the future.

I am not able to pull into my garage because of the flippac, so that is also a downside. Eventually I would like to consider installing the flippac on a truck bed trailer so I can park it and not have it permanently installed on the Tacoma.

Eh, I'm confident I can. I unlatch the 2 corners, open the tailgate, stand on tailgate, attach the rainfly corners to the edge, attach torsion bar lever, and open. Maybe not 30 seconds, but I bet I can do it in under 1 min alone easily, and definitely under 1 min if its raining on me.

Im also tallish and only 30, so I might be an outlier.

I do agree a better tent on the flippac that didnt require a fly would be great.

    Welcome to TW!

We will be offering an additional upper sleeping platform, if there is interest, to create a 110” platform. The longbed version will have a platform extension that is 12” longer than the short bed version. That panel could be used to make a 92” bed.

That would only leave 18” to stand up in, between the rear and the bed, when the sleeping platform is fully deployed.

This chair at Peet’s Coffee is 15.5” wide, so the space is still useful.

Please note that we mentioned “mid-sized trucks,” and plan to cover the Colorado. We’ll tackle full sized trucks as well.

I suggested it too, but it and the Khaya really are different beast altogether. I don't think either of them fit here. They're slide in, full-on campers just like the 4WheelCampers except they wedge instead of pop, instead of just a topper that has a sleeping platform on top.

I realize that's a gray area, but based on the title of the thread...

(and the Khaya is included, it's the first one listed)

It’s tough to compare a $5k camper to a $35k camper as well. Though obviously they are at least “similar” i would guess a customer for the slide ins 4WH, Alu-cab and Earth Cruiser 22-35k are very different from the customer for a GFC or V2, or any of the other Westy designs. Just my .02

While I agree, my suggestion is only contingent on the fact that the Alu-Cab Khaya is listed as an option. My thinking is that these other campers are in the same category as the Khaya and should also be listed. That's all.

These wedges are toppers. Not slide in like the other mentioned and the alucab in the original post. The alucab shouldnt be here also.

Yes, a few of these "glampers" are HUGE MONEY!!!!

    https://ok4wd.com/alu-cab-khaya-prime-camper
base model Khaya is $15K before destination, but if you want to add the stuff that actually makes it a camper, water, stove, electronics, it's 31K

    http://www.truckcamperadventure.com/2017/05/earthcruiser-announces-gzl-pop-up-truck-camper/
Earth cruiser starts at $32K before destination charges

    http://www.fourwh.com/four-wheel-popup-truck-camper-mid-mini-pricing-worksheet.pdf
and finally the FourWheel Camper comes in in the mid $20K's with a few options

Trust me I looked hard at each of these before plopping down 5K for the GFC. Keep in mind also that while they are all designed for midsize/ smaller trucks you have considerable weight to deal with so suspension and handling need to be considered as well. In the end it wasn't right for me.... However I won't lie a few of those things are freaking BADASS.

All super cool choices, I'd say having to choose between these, a V2 or a GoFastCamper would be the definition of a 1st world problem, clearly it's a great time to be alive!!!

I’ve seen it. In person. It’s beautiful.

I believe they will be releasing all the info in the upcoming days.

Edit- i was sold on the V1 ever since i saw it on @Iggy truck well over a year ago and phils flatbed version as well.
Seeing how quick it was to setup and pack up is what sold me. Now seeing the improvements he and @Overlanerd have made to the Drifter, its a no brainer. They have taken everything into consideration when developing the new camper.

Is there a Westfalia model for the Tacoma? Just curious.

I could be mistaken but I’m going to go with a solid no. At least as far as a branded Westy... most all of the campers on here use the Westfalia idea and adapted it to a pickup truck. Apparently we all blinked and this became the hot thing for 2018, i guess I’m very happy to be to see it all take shape. Can’t wait to see the pricing released on the V2, I’d imagine @Iggy has a lot to think about with the GFC coming in squarely at 5k, and the Habitat at $8600 I’d have to guess he’s going to want to land in between? I’ll take a stab and say base price on a V2 will be $6500?

Though of course i have absolutely nothing to base this guess off of.

We’ve posted that price on IG when people asked. Sorry that we haven’t put that info here.

That’s the base price without options. It will include:
    • Camper with mattress
    • One LED light with switch and quick disconnect wiring harness
    • Cab window with drop- down feature for cleaning
    • Locking rear glass window
    • Mounting hardware with triple bulb seal
We’ll have a list with options in our official thread.

    Just the basics
I think all the wedge-falia styles should be included.

I'd also like to add that for small/midsize pickups the price for a shell FWC is less than the mid 20s. Used ones are all over the place in varying years and options. Saw a new shell model in AZ listed under 6k. It was only a couple years old and bare bones. Very good deal.
