In-Dash hidden universal mount, RAM compatible.

I emailed the company on their website the day before yesterday but they haven't responded

 

I can field that one but want to state that I'm not doing distribution and or business end of these. I have material sitting here and I am hoping to be running them in earnest sometime next week. I might have enough time tonight in between my other runs to get another mill set up for them but no promises. My primary / faster mill is slammed until next week but I think I can sneak into one of the older dinosaurs. Please bare with me on time as I run these in my free time as my day to day work allows. The first articles and the last batch were run in a less than ideal setup to utilize the rems I had on the stock rack. I have switched my strategy and am going with optimized blanks and dedicated work holding jigs in the interest of efficiency.

FWIW, I have 100 blanks literally sitting right behind me.

The standard 2 hole mount is too tall to fit in between the dash and the bezel; I did buy one but it's no go unless the mount was made thicker and I think that would look bad.

One last thing to add is my apologies for delayed responses; I get lost in trying to keep up with all the PMs and various posts hence why someone else is handling the distribution on these. I want to get a dedicated thread going in the interest of answering all questions and not dropping the ball on responses but haven't had the time recently due to work and welcoming a new kid into the world last week.

I’m avoiding a waiting list because it takes a lot of time to keep up with. I want to accommodate everyone but I have to do these as time permits and keeping up with forum posts takes a lot of time I don’t have. I would love to do first come first serve but I just don’t have the time.

That is a totally legitimate question and I absolutely didn’t mean to insinuate that the part has changed. I should know better than to think everyone understands machinist jargon as we kinda speak a foreign language so please allow me to elaborate.

Not a substandard product, just a change in how I’m machining them. The geometry has not changed at all. The last batch were run 2 at a time using 1/4” thick material that was screwed down to a setup plate using the extra material (from previous jobs) I had on my stock rack. My machining strategy was dictated by the size of that stock, there was a lot of waste, and the time required for workholding was unacceptably high for anything other than a first run. Going forward, I’m investing the time required to make specialized work holding jigs (soft jaws) so that I can make them faster utilizing an optimum blank size to reduce waste, decrease machining time, and decrease time from part to part (i.e., open a vise vs removing a bunch of screws.)

Pro tips:
1) To remove the dash trim, start at the right and gently but firmly pull the trim away from the dash about an inch (not more or you'll damage the clips on the left side). This will release the clips on the right side and allow you to slip your fingers between the dash and the trim on the left side. Pull the left side away, being careful not to damage the head unit screen.
2) Use a 3/16" drill bit with a couple wraps of masking tape to mark the holes for drilling. The tape will give the drill bit a snug fit in the pre drilled holes in the accessory mount. Give the bit a few twists with your fingers to mark the holes.
3) Use brad point drill bits for more accurate holes. 1/4" or slightly larger will do ya. Slightly larger will be better if your holes are not perfectly located.
4) I used the mounting holes in the instructions and found that the dash trim has a slight curve making it appear like the accessory mount is bowed slightly up at the ends. Initially, I thought moving the mounting screws further apart would reduce this effect and give you a much cleaner look. However, I discovered today that you cannot move the mounting locations outboard any further because the clips are in the way. Instead, I added a few layers of electrical tape under the mount in the middle and slightly toward the left. This gave the mount a much more level appearance and now it looks almost like a factory option.
