Is CCW difficult to get in NV, or does it depend on what county you're in?

My old man got his CCW in Gardnerville (Douglas County). Was a single 8-9 hour class and few plinks at the range. Not sure how much it was.

Does Nevada County require good cause? Usually the more rural counties are easier.

Good news is he can get an out of state permit in Nevada.

The out of state permit does him no good in CA though since they aren't a reciprocal state.

    How much time do have?

All pistols sold from a dealer must be on the ca doj roster list. Meaning a lot of pistols are not sold in CA. Private party transfers are exempt however so it’s not illegal to own off roster firearms. 10 round mags are the legal limit in terms of purchase/transfer/selling. But ownership and useage of high cap mags is still legal. Soon to be closed loophole. New firearm sales need to have certain “safety” features such as not being able to fire the weapon unless a magazine is inserted. And a whole shit ton more.

NWS posted this earlier. I’d take it with a grain of salt as they aren’t necessarily always correct with their timeline.

So what about people coming in from out of state? I like to carry when I camp but I know my CCW is only good in NV... what are the laws for having a pistol in the car while driving in CA? What about while at camp / hiking / fishing? I have googled this before heading out on trips through CA and the answers I find through google always seem so convoluted I always just decide better safe than sorry and leave guns at home.

I obviously need to ask a LEO at some point but you seem knowledgeable and we're on the subject.

I will see whats up for the ccw, but also not sure its possible but I am going to try and see if I can make it happen.

While traveling in the vehicle, the firearm must be unloaded and locked in the trunk, or in a locked case inside the cab. Ammo must be separate from the locked case. Never travel with a pistol in the glove box or center console...also illegal. Even if locked.

While camping in ca, a campsite is considered and extension of your home so it carrys the same home laws. Meaning you can conceal carry in your campsite. I would not suggest open carry in your campsite but again it’s an extension of your home so it’s technically legal, but still can be problematic. Get behind the wheel and you are fucked though. Hiking and fishing...nope. Can’t do it without a ccw. Unless you are hunting (meaning you would have to prove you are hunting with a hunting tag and the right season) you can have a sidearm.

While in CA you must follow CA laws. Meaning if you have hi cap magazines, it would be illegal to cross state lines with the hi cap. You must have a 10 round or less magazine. They must be physically limited mags too. 10 rounds in a 15 round mag doesn’t fly. DOJ roster rules and “safety” restrictions do not apply so most pistols are fine as long as it’s a 10 round mag. However any “pistol” that has a detachable magazine that does NOT feed into the pistol hand grip is illegal. This includes something as simple as a 10-22 Charger. Any pistol that had a flash hider or threaded barrel is also illegal. Don’t take those.

I'm not real knowledgeable on most ca gun stuff but I do know you can open carry in remote places, as long as the county population is under like 200k I think. And as long as the mag doesn't hold more than 10 rounds. Just tons of stupid shit. If I remember correctly carrying a concealed weapon there is a misdemeanor, however, possession of a "high capacity" mag (over 10) is a felony. Law makers over there are an ignorant bunch of cocksuckers.
The open carry law may have changed as that was law the one time I backpacked into desolation wilderness, that was like 6 years ago. We both carried, had a couple people on the trail curl their nose and one gal said "hurry, he's got a gun" lol. but no troubles.
