We can sing to @Black007 if he comes, but maybe he has something else on tonight?

What are we all using for rear diff oil? I need to change mine, currently running Amsoil but looking for an off the shelf synthetic.

I just run Motomaster synthetic gear oil. Oil is oil. I change it regularly and the truck isn't in "super high stress" situations like some sort of high performance track car. I can't justify spending 25+ dollars a bottle on gear oil for it. Especially since there's so many things that use gear oil. Tranny 5ish liters, front diff 2.5 liters, rear diff 3 liters, trasfercase 2 liters. Roughly 12 liters? I'm just tossing numbers out. But that shit gets pricy.

Given that, you don't need to change the front diff and transfercase nearly as much as the tranny and rear diff.

The transmission is only 1.8L of oil, and really is the only one that needs to have the good oil. GL-4 oil only. everything else gets the cheap stuff from NAPA or carquest for me, mostly because I don't like supporting Canadian tire.

    Is anyone interested in
What tranny do you have in your truck?

The R155 takes at least 3 liters per change.

After I rebuilt the R154 it took 4.5 bone dry though.

False patriotism? I'm not trying to start an internet fight, just trying to understand what you mean! Also never heard of Performance Edge!

Seems strange the V6 6 speed takes less oil than the 4 banger 5 speed.

I plan on changing mine soon, I'll find out exactly how much it takes then ;)

I am going to try Motorcraft XT-M5-QS Full Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid for my tranny at the next change, but I recognize that I need to be fussier than most on that one. As for the diff, I think I will probably go for the CT synthetic just for now. I think there is value in changing lube more often, so you see if something is going wrong earlier. I am sure I never come close to running the life out of my motor oil.

What I really want to put in the diff is an ARB locker...

Ya, Performance Edge is out in Tantallon and I discovered them about 10 years ago when I was first getting into mechanical work. They basically guided me threw replacing my blown 3VZ in my 94 pickup. Local guys, sell stuff at a marginal markup over cost, and the staff are fantastic. I think Wes opened one up in Sackville, but I have never been to that one and cannot comment on their service there.

As for Canadian tire and false patriotism. Their entire brand attempts to sell you on being super Canadian. Which I would have no issue with if their devoted their brand to being Canadian not just paying lip service. Mastercraft tooling should be made in Canada. If they are going to ride out the Canadian image they have been cultivating for as long as I can remember they should at least manufacture their product in Canada. Not putting down anyone who shops there, as I will out of necessity, but when I can I will spend a little more (but often less) at a local shop rather than the big business.

As for the Transmission, I agree, it does seem weird. The manual calls for 2.2L on an R155F. I assume on a drain and fill you and not getting the full amount of oil out of the transmission as some will always hide in a sump of some sort so a little less fluid is needed to fill. But on a full teardown and rebuild you are getting into all the nooks and fully flushing the thing out so more oil would be needed. Also, as far as I have been reading the R15X transmission are a bit more robust than the newer 6 speed RA transmissions.

The entire cat back. Provided your exhaust it' in decent shape overall, I'm okay with a leak. Easy fix.

I've just grown tired of it honestly.

I still have my stock header, if you want to trade headers. I like to keep stock parts laying around.
