Bought a 2013 V6 Prerunner DCSB less than two months ago, 54k miles (currently 57k). About a week ago, I noticed at standstill to low speeds, i'd hear a faint whistle. First thing I did was check my PS fluid level, it was normal. Noticed the fluid was very dirty, so I flushed it with Dex III (thanks to one of the threads on here). When I had it up on the jack, and my help turning the wheel to flush fluid, I could hear the sound clear as day (Couldn't really pinpoint where, just can hear it from the cab when running.). After putting everything back together, I took it for a drive. Seemed to turn smoother/better, fluid level was good, but the noise was still there (not as apparent, but still there). Has anyone else heard of this problem? About to just bring it to the dealership before my Certified pre-owned warranty before it runs out.

I'll attach a video of the noise (you can hear it most apparent at the end, almost like that of a slide-whistle).

    Thanks!!!

Mm.. my first internet guess would be a power steering pump leak. Air exposure can cause a whiny or screechy noise.

e: That would help explain proper fluid flush = better feel.

Bump.. the noise isn't noticeable at first when the engine is cool, but as the engine warms up it shows up. Hope that helps some..

Bump... also, occasionally has a grunting noise if almost at full lock, on both sides. Then when i start moving and try to do it again, it goes away..

Does the steering wheel jitter with the grunt? I'd take it in to get the rack and pump inspected. Have you already? An inspection should be free. Don't have to commit to a repair. Or go to dealership.

Can’t hear the whistling from the video.

But honestly, if it’s under warranty, let the dealer figure it out.

\Went to the dealer (LC Toyota) last week for a oil change/state inspection, tech did diagnosis on noise, determined that "boot on intermediate shaft was rubbing against something", sprayed with silicone spray.. noise seemed to be gone/problem solved. Noticed today as I was turning that the noise is back and louder... I then got under my truck and examined where he sprayed the silicone spray. After getting a neighbor to turn the wheel while I was under it, the noise was still present, but nothing looked like it was rubbing?? Heres some pictures of the shaft.. does anything look out of place? Thanks!

Isn’t it inappropriate to post pictures of your shaft on here?
