Expanding student housing area across from college. By adding a pedestrian bridge, they reduce the possibility of ped vs. car and can adjust traffic lights to reduced time needed for cross walk.

Ever been a pedestrian in a FL city? I spent three weeks near Ft Lauderdale for classes and the first half hour of orientation was about how dangerous it was crossing the street due to the drivers, even with traffic lights and crosswalks.

Actually it's not usually the supers fault in these situations. The super only builds to what is designed, we dont design shit. If everything is inspected properly and it still fails it is not on our heads. Now there are some instances where I have been in, that I have questioned the design and I was right and the error was caught in time. However, had I NOT caught it and it was actually built per plan, inspected, poured and it then failed, well that is not the supers fault. The blame goes to the design team which is the engineering/architectural consultants (i.e.-architect and engineers).

Now, you would be correct if the super failed to get all the proper inspections. Although, anymore, I find that hard to believe unless its some shitty little mom and pop outfit, but a bridge like that isnt usually built by a non qualified outfit.

    Just my $0.02.

They put a bridge in like that here for Xavier to avoid the pedestrian vs. car issue, however the left the old bridge over the canal, so no one uses the new bridge anyway. The real issue is that the pedestrians just dawdle across the 4 lane in dribs and drabs so the traffic never gets to really clear when the students are going to class...

Somebody's gonna pay on this one. I'm no engineer, but isn't 950 tons a little heavy for a pedestrian bridge?

The real gurus know once the cap if off if they're fake. I've bought and sold a few sets years ago.

Back in the day I wouldn't mess with fake stuff or ones that had been redrilled

Not for a concrete bridge. Between the rebar and mud, seems about right for the size of it. I'm being told that they tried a new type of concrete. Purely speculation at this point though. I'll have to wait until the investigation really to have a good idea about what happened. Lawsuits galore though for sure.

It won't be just one someone, but I imagine a heap of people are shitting their pants. This will play out like the Hyatt walkway collapse where a lot of people get busted down to asking if they want fries with that.
