that's a solid point and the reason I got the ones I did, my kids use them as a step as well! On a related note I may be selling mine soon, and my skids... will know more after this weekend.

 

I will never wheel my GMC, obviously, but I want steps. It seems to be taller than the stock ride TRD O/R I had. I just don't know what to get. I think trucks look better without them, so it's hard to decide on something that I don't like the looks of and costs quite a bit of money. Any suggestions?

 

get the retractable ones . Expensive I think, but would solve your problem...

I like my kickout's a lot and have put them to plenty of good use.

 

Yea there really isn't an argument about that... Only thing I have heard against kickouts is you can get caught up on them in a reverse situation.

 

Hmm ok, so it looks like I will be starting to look for sliders with fill plates, kickouts, and either parallel to the ground or slight angle. Might as well get it right the first time than have to sell these and get others if my priorities change and do off road more.

I'd get the factory ones, they are positioned well to be used as a step. My old man has them on his 2014 and they are useful. I did the same with the Ferd. I didn't go with sliders because there's no way in hell I'll ever wheel this boat and they are no where near as readily available for the full size trucks as they were for the Tacoma. Not a lot of people making rock sliders for a full size, crew cab F150... For the Tacoma, especially on this site, there are a lot of good fabricators making sliders for the Tacoma so it's a no-brainer.

I can't imagine ending up married, myself. I'm fiercely independent and it's very scary to think about how things would go if it didn't work--do I have to give up so much of what I had previously on my own?

They're also good to prevent door dings. I'd rather someone damages a set of steps than puts a dent or chipped paint in a door.

Yeah, that's true.

I'd have visions of needing to sell the house because suddenly half the equity is her's, sell the truck for the same reason, then not have the savings to replace the truck and put down on a new house because half of that becomes her's too. Not to mention resetting the mortgage clock.

I had considered driving it .eventually. Maybe
