performance?

Whats the horsepower gain on:

TRD COI
K&N COI
AFE COI
or any others

Im looking at getting one for my 01' 3.4L tacoma. I was just wondering which one has the highest power gain and which one 3.4L guys perfer. I would appricate any help i can get on this. Thanks

 

dont waste your time or $$$ on CAI. the truck already has a true cold air intake by taking in air from under the front fender. those kits relocate the intake to inside the hot engine bay.

just do the deck plate mod and a good drop in filter.

so with the plate in its like having the stock non-moded air box in and with it out its like having a cold-air intake?

 

Pretty much. Doesn't suck as much hot air either, at least while moving. At idle the temps can get high, but that's gonna happen even with true CAIs.

 

Dont buy a cai they do nothing for a Tacoma (non boosted) other then sound good. They most hp gains for an intake has been with the deckplate mod 5-8hp I think.

Any of you guys have 2.4Ls? I have done the deck plate mod and tinkered with my intake for smoother air flow but still hardly anything. I felt more gain with an open cone filter. Atleast my truck didn't bog down to 65 when going up a grade.


Any other cheapy mods with stock air boxs lol.

 

What's the preferred drop-in filter for our trucks with the deck plate mod?

 

I have an AFE pro dry S. it's great, noticed performance gain and it intake screams around 3500-4000 RPM

 

i run the stock paper filters. ...they do a much better job of filtering than the high-flow reusables.

the small, almost imperceptible hp gains you'll get from a hi-flow filter come at the cost of letting more dirt in the engine.

i guess it just depends on how long you plan on keeing your truck.

 

This is because you can literally see the dirt on white paper as opposed to dark blue or red filter media with oil on it.

 

I'm running the AFE pro dry S as well, damn good filter. Better than stock. The stock one still let crap through.. hehe

 

my intake is clean as a whistle behind my AFE filter.

 

There are tons of threads on the deckplate mod already. Under search just type in deckplate and you'll get plenty of results. I just did this mod to my 2.7 liter tacoma and noticed a little throttle response, which was nice.

 

Heard good things about k&n intakes and bad but mostly dont get them if you plan on keeping them for a while whats up with this
