I got a video of which i'm doing 65 and that crosswind comes in. It was enough to have my dealer call for parts.

It’s so sad that we pay $35K for a truck, experience a well-documented problem, and STILL have to make efforts to PROVE we have a problem. The whole independent dealer model is broken, in my opinion. Not necessarily the concept, but the training, attitude and incentives.

    Nothing worthy
I've mentioned this a couple times in other threads :deadhorse::fenforcer:

This has been a painful issue for me since we bought the truck in 2015. Thankfully my dealer has been nothing but very compliant, helpful and sympathetic. We have brutal winds from the west reaching 100kmh and thats the way we head to the mountains. Ive called my service guy while driving more than once (they have replaced the window seal 3 times) and he says every time before I even mention the noise "I can hear it!! HOLY! I have a seal on the way" We both agree that it's clearly not going to fix it but he tries.
This time I'm trying the AVS in channel visor to tighten up the seal :fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed: And he said they're willing to pay for whatever ends up fixing the problem.
Just waiting for the never ending winter to end so i can install them..

Last week, I took my truck in for service and a copy of the TSB on wind noise. I’ve told them of the wind noise every time I took it in for service. Three times they could never replicate.

Luckily, the day I took my truck in, we were having 35-40 mph wind gusts. They took the truck out for a test drive. When they came back, they confirmed the wind noise on the drivers side up at the top of the window.

Then, they told me it wasn’t the door seals as described in the TSB. They said the noise was coming from those black plastic strips on the roof on both sides. To fix the problem, they are replacing those strips under warrantee.

Appointment made for replacing the strips next tuesdsy. I’m not sure if their diagnosis is correct. I hope it is correct, but at this point, I’m not convinced.

Anyone else told the noise is coming from those black strips on the roof?

I just had my door seals replaced. Had a rainy weekend and the winds were about 15mph. With the replacements now installed, looks like the kazoo noise is gone. As far as the plastic strips on top, I've never heard of that being the problem.

I thought it was coming from the plastic guards on the edges of the door, as mine seem to have lost a bit of adhesion and flap around.:confused:

Took my truck in fo replacement of the roof rack moldings. Tech said they were damaged and that was what caused the wind noise. Was told they were confident the problem was fixed. Of course today, we have calm weather. No wind noise so far. When it gets windy, I’ll know if it is fixed or not. Tech still doesn’t think the door seals are faulty. Here is a copy of the work order.EBFDFF2F-BC4C-4C3F-AB53-0AE6C7C5F80D.jpg

Got my new seals installed yesterday thanks to this post. Haven’t seen a crosswind yet, but the door shuts SNUG, which is nice.

I've not heard this on my 2017 but I had it on my 2013, I found on days it was noticeable I'd slide
a plastic gift card between the left door gasket and the windshield post at about eye level.
98% of the time the noise went away.

    None to date.
Dang! I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one hearing this noise. Appreciate the link and the info provided. I'm calling to day to set up an appointment. Cheers!

I only started noticing the howl over the past couple of weeks since it’s not usually windy around here (thanks to TW). The howl is so faint I’m sure the casual Tacoma owner would never notice it wasn’t okay. Mentioned it to the dealer this morning during my 5k appointment and described when the howl started. Service said they’d order parts after inspection and referenced the TSB. No problems with the dealership I went to.

I’ve had the wind noise for more than 2 years. I’ve been to the dealer at least 6 times for service/recalls in that time frame. I showed them the dollar bill demo where you close the door pinching the dollar bill at the top of the door seal. The bill would slide out with little effort. I think a good wind would blow the bill out of the seal. They stated, it proves nothing.

Every time I’ve been to the dealer, I mentioned the crosswind noise only at the top of the drivers door. I’ve never had the kazoo noise; just the crosswind noise. Usually they tell me they could not replicate. Once they said there was a TSB for rubber plugs needed in my LCA. Thry said that would fix the noise, and put plugs in place. No help for my wind noise.

Recently, I saw the TSB for crosswind noise and the cure was new door seals. I printed a copy and went to my dealer on a very windy day. They took the truck out for a test drive. When they returned, they finally confirmed the crosswind noise. However, they said the noise wasn’t coming from the door seals, but from the roof rack strips. They said they were damaged and replacement would stop the wind noise. Who am I to second guess the professionals. A few days later, parts were in and the roof rack strips were replaced. As soon as I pulled on to the highway, there was that annoying crosswind noise.

I can’t stand that wind noise and was about to give up and sell my truck. I thought I would try the 1/4” drip tubing fix. Went to HD and got a roll of 1/4” drip tubing. Placed it in the opening at the top of my driver’s door and at the top of the access door. I tried the dollar bill pinch test on both doors. With the dollar bill in place, I could not remove it without tearing the bill. I think that is a good sign of success.

I then took the truck out for a drive. Not a very windy day, so not sure if the wind noise is gone or not. I did notice one thing. When on a 4 laned highway, as a car Would pass me, I didn’t hear any highway noise. In the past, I would always hear cars as they went by. It would sound like a window was cracked or the door wasn’t shut all the way.

I can’t confirm yet if the crosswind noise is gone, but with the 1/4” drip tubing in place, the truck seems tighter and not as noisy.

Just wanted to add that in the past, I could hear the crosswind noise even stopped and sitting in a parking lot.

I don't recall mentioning about the new seals. But with the rainy days this past week and the few days winds were 15mph +, i can honestly say that the replacements worked and am satisfied.

Why are there 2 part numbers for each DC door? Is one original and one TBS updated replacement?
