I’m not even being a smartass, but a pistol would be number 1 on my list as a father that goes camping just his family.

Don’t get me wrong a shot gun will do the job 110%, but if you needed to grab and move one of your daughters and pull them behind cover or whatever you can’t with a shotgun, plus it’s extremely extremely deafening which isn’t good when you have little ones running around nor for their equilibrium. Just something to think about.

What pistol are u shooting thats quieter than a shot gun? Like sub sonic ammo maybe? Or a .22/.25

Ive hunted and shot with shot guns for over 20 years and never gave hearing protection a 2nd thought, but if a handgun is gonna go off around me and it not be for defense im gonna have somethin in my ears... But i also dont shoot girl calibers so that could be part of it (all kidding aside, even a 38 spl in my 4" barrel is louder than a 12 ga)

 

It may be because I shoot 8 gauge shotguns

And that i appreciate bud. And it is currently #1 on my list. Ive been shopping around. Ima have to buy 2 tho. What do you reccomend for easy carry and good knockdown even for animals of the large variety. Must have a safty, small and easy to draw. And not break my already shattered bank lol.

 

How large an animal?

 

Wellllll mountain lion or small bears in the Appalachian. Bigger bears out west next year and alaskan animals in a few years

 

Fuck me dude lol, you won’t get all that you’re asking for with that. I would want a 454 for Alaska, a 357 magnum you can get in a smaller gun( revolver) and it has good knockdown, but a revolver isn’t going to be as comfy to carry because of the cylinder (in my experience) compared to the little single stack guns.

I believe some of the s&w m&p have a safety. The safety thing will narrow down your choices a lot. Most striker fired don’t have one.
And I’m not even getting into 9mm vs 40 vs 45

I carry 9mm for more rounds.

You really need to decide what the smallest caliber would be acceptable to you and we could work from there. And I’m not the only voice on this I’m sure @yota243 @rmepilot know their shit too.

 

I've been checking them and the unfinished kitchen cabinets at Lowe's out. Probably just gonna do cabinets and pour some cement for tops. I like the look for them though.
