Hey guys. I used to have a 2014 ORSB, but I traded it in for an ecoboost F150 because I wanted more "get up and go." The F150 ended up being nothing but problems, even broke down on me on a cross country road trip from GA to WA, leaving me stranded in Nashville for two days waiting for the ford dealers to open, so I traded it in for a 2017 VW GTI (had a GTI before my last tacoma). I love my GTI, but its only getting ~22 mpg driving around town and I really miss the utility of having a truck so I'm thinking about coming back to a Tacoma. I know when the third gens first came out people were complaining a lot about the new 6sp AT. Is it any better now that its been around a few years? I know people say just get the MT, but I sit in traffic a lot now in CA, and will again when I move to San Antonio here in a few months.

Pic for clicks of my 2014

If you're still hoping for more "get up and go" as compared to your 2014 Tacoma, then my advice to you is buy a Tundra.

I'm surprised the VW has been more reliable than the F150.

Yeah I’d suggest the tundra too. The Tacoma doesn’t have any get up and go.

I think I'm over the "get up and go" at this point. And I'd rather get the 18-22mpg than the 12mpg on a good day. I have fishing kayaks that I want to be able to haul around again when I get to Texas, and it would be much easier in the back of a truck than on a roof rack of a car. My plan when getting the GTI was to just pick up a used Tacoma when I get to Texas, but the used 2nd gens without ridiculous miles are still 25k+, so I'm thinking about saying screw it, get the new Tacoma, and be over the "goin fast."

Yeah man I usually get a solid 18-19 miles an hour. The Tacoma was my first truck and I came from a bmw. Cruising in a truck is way better than going fast in a little one. And I was the same way when I bought mine, used ones were just as much as a new one. Test drive it man.

Then the Taco is right for you. While I still grumble about the transmission to myself from time to time, I can't deny the utility of the truck and the exceptional gas mileage, especially if I'm on the highway. My friend has a 2014 Tundra and is getting 15 MPG mixed driving; I am getting 22 MPG mixed.

I definitely want to go test drive one. I just filled out a request with USAA's car buying service to have one of the local dealers contact me. Easier that way so I won't have to do as much negotiating if I do end up liking it. And I can finance for 2.79% with them for using the service, which seems to be about as good as you can get right now looking at rates.

I only got 3.9 but they bought it down to 1.9. I almost got a tundra cause it was 0% The price difference between Tundra and Tacoma is nil with the 3.9% I didn't want 12mpg though.

Your are going to miss Seaside in August when it is a 1,000 degrees hot in SA, but you will like the annual $85 Texas license plate renewal. I still miss living in PG and a Gusto pizza.
