    Hello, I'm 1st&lasttaco

I chose that name because for years, all the way back to.. aahmm... "the future"... the tacoma was my dream truck. "One day Jennifer, one day." :) I wanted to buy new, be the only owner and drive the wheels off of it till I was an old man. Then 2016 happened, I fell in love. The 3rd gen Tacoma, and how bout that they even made a version that looked like Marty's. So I finally pulled the trigger. A quad cab, locking rear diff, 6 speed manual tranny, a proper hand brake, 20+ mpgs and all for just over 30k!!

But then at 5k everything changed. The motor kept falling on its face when I asked for power. The direct injection pumps kept failing and stranding me on the side of the road. If they did work they chirped embarrassingly and the motor really doesnt make low end power like I would think a truck should. It drives more like a 90's Vtec civic. The diff howled. The springs squeak. My god the drivetrain slop! This isn't the toyota quality I know. What happened? Must be a fluke, right? I guess I shouldn't have bought the first model year of a revamp. So I got another one, a 2017. Surly it will be better. However; within 10K I was driving the same lack luster vehicle. Then... at 14K I hear a clunk clunk... next thing I know the rear end locks up and I'm sideways on the highway with a box of rocks underneath me....

    $#iiiiiiiiiiiittttt!!!!!!!

Thankfully I managed to not wreck it or roll it. Turns out the transfer case took a dump. Toyota says the front seal leaked out the fluid and thus the failure. What?? I've never seen a drop. I change my oil every 5K because I'm a geek and again I thought I'd have this truck till I'm old. I dont even off road. I'm 38 and I already drive like an old man. And now I seriously doubt that my new dream truck will even make it out of warranty. I drove a friends 2013 TrdOR 6 spdM. Basically identical truck. THAT drove like what I thought a tacoma should. What happened to the Tacoma?! Now im looking at a Tundra. But I dont want a tundra. No manual trans. I can't buy what I want in truck now. its all safety sense, hell even manual trannys are disappearing. WTF is wrong with the world!! What do I do?!

And do not say Colorado. I hate chevy. GM should have failed decades ago.

May try the OVTune, I know i'm thinking the same thing "Why am i even thinking of a tune to fix a brand new 30k + vehicle?"

But there seems to be a trend forming that Matt the developer has it right. I may be in that boat to with a brand new 2018 DCSB OR

Ditch it. It seems you have had more problems than anyone ever. Buy a different brand and don't look back.

Sorry for the shitty luck. I’ve have some minor complaints about my 17 OR but it’s been fine mechanically and I’m at around 16k now.

Let them fix it under warranty and move on with life.

Or ditch it and get a diesel Colorado or Canyon

Dude. My truck, along with 99% of other Tacomas, is just fine. Yours apparently is a dog.
It does not take other opinions to see that you either hate this truck or you have the worst luck ever and the truck is terrible.

Get rid of it, drop Toyota and move on. It's just a truck, not a family member. You can leave it and move on.

I'm at almost 36k no problems, 2016 sport DCLB auto. Stay with a Taco, just get a different one and be happy!! My last one was a 2001 OR!!
    Good luck!!

Just making sure I read this right. 2016 was a lemon with injection pumps. 2017 tcase fails. Third times a charm at 2018. If you love 6spd tacos then stick with it. As you said MT is dying get one while you can.

There is a fix for every problem if you truly love the 3rd gen Tacoma and want to keep it. Plenty of guys on this forum have tweaked their trucks to work the way they want them to.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.:(

Usually gimpomatic owners bitch and moan all day. You are the first real man 3 pedal owner I heard of having problems.

If I was in your shoes, after all the problems in your 16, I wouldn’t have bought a 17. Did Toyota lemon it, or did you take a loss on 16 and buy a 17?

My 16 OR 6MT was perfect

My 17 PRO 6MT, 62k Miles has been to dealer for water in headlights. Otherwise perfect
