I'm in the market for a Tacoma, DC, 4wd, TRD Off Road, with Tow Package.

I've been looking at new 2010 prices and the best price I've found so far is around $29,500, with no doc fees.

I also drove a 2009 with the same specs with 19K miles and the dealer is asking $27K. It also has a chip in the windshield and a few scratches here and there (which are normal). The price was $28K and they just dropped it this week. They also charge a fairly high doc fee $400-500.

I also just saw a 2010 listed by owner with 5K miles for $29K.

Can anyone give me their opinions on what the values of these used trucks would be?

Personally, I've almost eliminated the 2009, since it's only $2,500 less than new and it has some dings with 19K miles.

I'm considering seeing how low I can get the used 2010 for since it's pratically new, but I can't find any private party used car values for a 2010 Tacoma. Obviously, I'm not going to pay $400 less for the used 2010, but I'm not sure at what price it would be worth buying used versus new.

    Thoughts?

^^^^ Great choice, Doc! I live in CT and found a 2010 in NH for nearly $4,000 less than I could find in CT. Using the service, I just submitted what I was looking for and several dealers came back with offers.

I did check out USAA.com and they were able to get me a price of around $29.4 or $29.5. Fairly reasonable prices.

Thanks for the replies. I may go test drive the used 2010 and if it's in really good shape, I may make an offer. Just hard to know what it's worth. KBB and Edmunds don't post values for used 2010 Tacomas. Any suggestions on where I can find private party used car info for a 2010 Tacoma?

Go to edmunds, check the true market value in your area, then there's a feature that allows you to send emails to area dealers. that's a great way to get a good price.

When you check out the used rig, find out if it has an extended warranty with it. If so it may be even more of a bargain if you don't have to buy it and merely pay a transfer fee. Also, the dealer will likely move a bit on the price too.
Don't depend on Edmunds or KBB for pricing right now as Toyota's aren't quite the rage they were. 29,500 on a new truck ain't bad but could be better. Although new vehicle financing can also be enticing "if you have excellent credit".
Go work the dealer and don't be afraid to walk away. Bring your own line of credit, even if you don't use it. Just gives you options to work with. good luck. Ken
