I travel 3 hours south to our weekend house every other weekend without any problems. The ride rites work great, a little bouncy on the roads down there. If you off-road just take it slow, stock Tacoma’s do just fine.
    Don’t drive at night.
    Baja bound online insurance.
A good Led or HId setup.
Coke’s or cold waters for check points.
Spare filled gas cans, don’t cross with them filled.
No guns or drugs, you won’t stress.
    Knifes ok, long bow ok.
Be super polite to any police or federales.
    Exchange dollars for pesos.
2 spares with easy access to jack and lug wrench.
    Have fun!

Where's your digs in Baja? We go everywhere, but like the beach south of San Felipe best.

Passed through there last October researching for the new map and guide. My folks and I fished out of Castro's Camp in the early 80s. I know surfers like the area. Checked out Coyote Cal's place, too.

Cool, great fishing at Castro’s, good company at cals, rick runs a great place for the passing traveler. Castro’s remodeled their restaurant overlooking the cliff.

These are all great points. From my experience, "don't drive at night" is critical. Mexicans drive with no lights, including buses and trucks. Night gets crazy scary.

That's a rather "blind" statement... As one who has been driving in Mexico for over 40 years, the number of lighless locals in Mexico I can count on one hand. However, the really good reason to not drive at night is that there is range cattle, burros, and horses on the open highway in central Baja. The next good reason is the incredible scenery you miss at night.

So plan your driving to be done driving before sundown, especially south of San Quintin on Highway 1. The highway is also very narrow after that point! Baja is not for the weak!

Notice no shoulders, either! Now, this is only south of San Quintin and they are improving sections with wider road and paved shoulders... but not for most of the drive south.

All good info but I’m going to the mainland not to Baja. I’ll be in cartel land outside of Juarez and the chihuahua mountains. I have not been in years looking forward to it.

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
    Buy it there lol

If it were me, I would do either Dakars anf new bumps, or an add a leaf and airbags.

No compressor needed, if you don't have one. Just get a small bike pump, or a cheapo compressor. I would grab a soare airbag itself and not worry. They are adjustable to the load, ride great and supliment what you have. Less kinks to iron out.

The firestone kit is good, I run them on my 2015 and 2017. And the add a leaf I like is only about 70 dollars.
