Yeah it would be cool to see how the truck drives with full 11.8:1 compression all the time - especially low end responsiveness. I'd expect to take a mpg hit, but how much? Interesting..

    +1 FULL OTTO!!

I’d be interested in trying a 04B11 test tune that is working well if anyone would be so kind...

I haven’t had a chance to finish setting up Techstream unfortunately.

Wonder what kind of driving Mat would need for datalogs on a full otto test tune? Aside from wot pulls. Those are pretty standard. Spending more time lower in the rpm band than you might normally?

Not sure, the logs I have been sending him have included a full spectrum of driving conditions. The WOT pulls in 2nd obviously plus just stop and go driving in traffic around town while it warms up on the way to my WOT test strip. This includes going up a hill with a pretty good grade in a 45mph zone as well as the descent. I also do a run 1st-4th gear up to 5k+ rpm in each gear, this truck gets up go's pretty good;):D

ETA I just sent him the log for my run with the 1.03C.00001 test file

First thing I noticed after flashing was that the idle seemed much smoother and quieter. The power in first and second seems to have improved and I don't have to feather the clutch as much to get it rolling and the shifts seem smoother. I didn't experience any of the hickup's at low speeds between 1st-2nd that I was experiencing but I was only driving around for about 40 minutes.

Has anyone with an 2018 sent Matt driving logs? I just send him some from my '18 and I'm running the 103C 87 Octane. The reason I'm asking is that I didn't think the older versions of Techstream didn't support the '18 trucks, it has a different ECU.

I think the larger volume of people who care about mpg are AT owners. And doesn't Atkinson happen below like 2500 anyway? I have to consciously focus on going that low in 3rd and above. Otherwise I'm there or higher just cause of how I normally drive anyway. Still kind of indifferent about whether or not full otto actually happens though. Definitely curious.

    I was thinking about this..

Perhaps turn the way Toyota did this on it's head - Start off in Otto (regardless of rpm), and then when up to a certain speed and only in low load conditions, allow the engine to go Atkinson. I mean the truck already has plenty of power in 6th on the highway with this tune IMO...

TL;DR - OTTO 1st to 5th, Atkinson in 6th w/ low load. Will still allow you to save gas a bit.

Offer OTTO tunes as a alternative along with the regular releases maybe, because some peeps will not want to take the mileage hit.. anyway, something to think about while Mat gets the current tunes buttoned up :)

I had a road trip yesterday and running the 103C on 87 octane and got 24mpg at around 65mpg. It was approx a 200 mile trip.

I have never got anywhere close to advertised MPG's since the day I drove it off the lot, except for the free tank full from the dealer I have never run 87,91 E free is all it gets. The fact I drove it 4 miles from the dealer to my shop and put on 265/75/16 E ply tires on didn't help....lol I haven't bothered doing the math to figure out what my actual MPG is.

According to my trip meter I have been getting about 250 miles on a tank of 91 octane this winter. It was better this past summer when I first got the truck it was about 17-18mpg and 325 miles on a tank.
Winter blend fuel,bumpers/winch,sliders and extended idling warm up's all happened at the end of October. The tune in January dropped it as well,or it may have been the extremely cold weather we had for almost a month. Who knows what this spring and summer blend will do to mileage.

what you're thinking is impossible to do, camshaft timing control is based on engine RPM and load. There is no way around it. That's how it works.

    I don’t think he’s posted a test tune for an 18 yet.

I’d definitely be willing to try a full otto tune.

Well shiiit. Ok, full OTTO it is then. Never let the pistons push any of the intake charge back out into the intake manifold.
