99 Camry power seat swap?

Yeah, saw that in your build. That raised front creates all the issue IMO. As soon as my shade tree mechanic shop reopens in the spring, I'm going to lower mine all around.

 

The only 1st gen with 'power seats' was 01-04 trucks with the Limited trim. And only then the only power adjustment was lumbar support. If you take a picture of the harness I can tell you how to wire it, a seat from a car that old should only be 12v and ground. Maybe another wire for the seatbelt sensor, but that should be it.

 

Cool will do. I'm just going off the wireing diagram, I'm sure my 02 has the connections for it somewhere.

 

Are you sure? Unless your truck is a limited it wouldn't have it. You might be thinking of the seatbelt sensor wire that's already there

 

What's this? This is a blocked plug under the drivers aeat of my tacona. It's not the sensor for the airbag/seatbelt. Starting the swap today, gutted the Tacomas interior to prepare for cutting and welding brackets.

 

Wow that's interesting. I have never seen anything like that before - let me take a look at the FSM. Can you get a multimeter or test light on it and identify the voltage?

 

I'll be damned... that is for the power seats. Your truck was wired for the power lumbar seats found in Limited trucks. Connector BU1 - White will carry 12v and White/Black will carry ground. Should have constant 12v in ACC.

 

Should be one of these connectors.

 

Sweet! Here's a pic of the plug going into the seat for the Camry I took it out of. What wire is what? I traced the wire back and it goes into a harness under the car, that would have been nice if it was plug...

 

Cut the pigtail off the Camry and solder it to the Tacoma harness so you can unplug the seat if you have to. I'm guessing blue is for power since it's a thicker gauge wire - red may be for the Seatbelt sensor but I don't have a Camry FSM so I can't tell you for sure. Try 12v on the blue wire and ground on the white/black wire.

 

BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING: make sure the Tacoma harness even has voltage going to it. Sometimes they aren't hooked up to the body ECU at all.

 

Cool thanks I'll see what I can find on Google. If that harness is dead I'll get a fuse block and run it right to the battery. I'll update later this week what I find, I need to modify the seat brackets so they work.

 

The easy way is to just cut the feet off your existing Tacoma seats and weld them to the Camry brackets assuming their buckets or 60/40 seats. Bench seats don't have all the mounting points you need

 

That's the plan for the pax side. The driver's side I already butchered up the feet to lower the seat for my cage. I'm cutting the cage out while I do the seat swap and I'll be modifying the Camry seat feet.

 

One thing to consider is the final height of the seat. I put in BMW 328i power seats, and I ride awfully "tall in the saddle". Not sure of the seat height of Camry ones, but..... My solution is going to be removing the hollow reinforcement that is at the front of the factory seats, then bolting directly through the floor pan. that could make up to a couple of inches difference. Cool thanks. I don't know how far I can realisictally lower them as there arr alot of motors and crap under the seat. I also have to see how far I can lower the seat using the power function. I was sitting in them last night and I don't think it will be that big of the deal. I can't tell if it's really THAT much taller than stock, or if I just got used to the lower position of the factory seats.

Tonight I plan on pondering and welding and I'll see what I can come up with.

 

On the BMW seats, there was nothing lower than the rails that get bolted to the floor, so they can go lower than the plane on which the factory rail is (once the front floor reinforcement is removed. But you wouldn't be putting anything under them. I could have dropped the back of mine as much as two inches, but that only put seat base at a more extreme angle, so no point. Swaps done. Ended up hooking the blue with white wire on the Camry harness to the solid white wire on the Tacoma. Evreything works and I finally have some comfy seats in this truck!
