Well before, you could sue for violtion of civil rights or discrimination. What are "suspected illegals" supposed to sue for now? That the LAW was forced upon them?

    my Opinion.
Ok, I live in the Northwest but have relatives in Texas. I am caucasian and look it, my sister, her son, and his children all look Spanish (dark hair, darker skin tones). If I get pulled over for some infraction it would be the right of the officer to ask for my drivers license. So long as that is all he is asking for whether it be me, my sister, or nephew, I believe that would be acceptable.
Now, if I don't have my license he should be able to ask additional questions and even to the point of having me provide some form of proof. But on the spot this could be difficult.
Getting a license requires some proof of birth. Maybe any license renewals should also require fingerprinting. This way, should I forget my license the officer could take a fingerprint scan and get the proof he/she needs that I am not only licensed but also a citizen of the United States.

I do believe it is acceptable for an officer of the law to question suspects and asking for proof of identity. This is well within their rights. If you are not a citizen, you may be considered a criminal if you can't provide proof that you are in this country legally.

Illegals should be sent home. They're illegal. That should be the end of that. Period.

However, I do not support this bill.

Yeah, people say "you have to be doing something else in order to be asked for ID". Ok, how many stupid reasons can you think of for cops to pull somebody over for "doing something wrong"?

I honestly don't have a problem with it. If you get pulled over and your legal wow 15mins of your day is lost and you think the cop is an a-hole. I kinda hope Texas starts this. I am by far not racist, I just get pissed when my friend or work partner's family can't get approval to visit for a week, but my mom who got t-boned in her $40000+ volvo by an illegal with no insurance then my mom got stuck with the bill and the illegal bastard got to walk away by the cops! F--- it being racist, this shit needs to stop and if it means hurting someones feelings so be it. Society these days are nothing but cry babies who got there feelings hurt, so now it should be banned?

Well Illegals shouldnt be able to sue anyone! they should get a swift kick in the ass and sent home packin.

and how would it be discrimination? If you are a citizen you shouldnt have been doing something wrong in the first place to get questioned by the cops... but in that case you will have an ID which you present to them, then go on your merry way.

I'm not talking about being illegal. I'm Mexican, a citizen but it doesn't mean a cop can't racially profile me now that this law has passed. Before, if it happened, I could easily sue because that's against the law. Well no longer son.

So you think it's more important to be able to sue because a cop asked your immigration status, then to stop the wave of illegal immigrants pouring into this country?

X1000 their laws are much more strict than ours!

here are two links so no one can say "well thats fox and they are redneck republicans."

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/04/30/mexican-hypocrisy-neighbor-tough-immigration/

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/04/26/AR2010042603810.html

    from the washington post:
"Mexicans working abroad sent home last year more than $20 billion, the country's second leading source of foreign capital after oil sales".

Uhh...thats a lot of money that could have stayed in the US and benifited many americans

They could stop them while in the action of crossing, not when they're driving a decent taco down the street. I've never been pulled over for that type of thing but I'm sure others have. Idk why I'm arguing, I want to be a border patrol after the marines.ha

I see you're 17. Are you in the Marines yet? That EGA you are sporting means a lot to those who have earned it. If you are in, then Semper FI, if not, take it off until you earn it.

thats whats wrong with america. People are sue crazy! why would you sue a cop for doing his job?

A cop stops you for not stoping all the way at a stop light, asks for your ID and insur. and you provide it and go on your way. You being mexican has nothing to do with the stop, but once you are stopped he can ask about your citizenship which you should be proud to say "yes I am american"!

the same thing happens to an illegal and he goes by by...

    I see nothing wrong here.

One of the basic functions of any Federal government is to protect it's citizens and enforce the borders. Our Federal government is not doing either of those, so then it becomes an issue for the State. I don't think people in the US have an issue with people trying to better the lives of themselves and their families, but there is a proper way to do it. Not to mention that it has been Federal Law that all naturalized citizens are required to carry proof of citizenship since the 30's. Bottom line is we have to place the protection of the citizens of this country over a person who is here illegally.

I have to agree with most that AZ. was correct in passing the new law. We just had 6 illegals deported from our town. We don't get that many they don't like our Cold Winters. The ones they caught were brought up on Drug Charges then it was found they were illegal so By,by.

No... That's the difference between us and most other countries, Americans don't need to carry proof of being an American just like Americans are innocent until proven guilty by a jury of their peers. Single out one person in a group of three and you better have good reason. Single me out in a group of three and I don't have to give you squat. My name is all you'll get. Take me to jail for not "proving" to you that I am an American and you will be successfully sued.
