Any thoughts on how difficult it is to put your roof top tent on with the Prinsu rack? Considering a prinsu v a frontrunner... just looking for input on functionality, etc... Ultimately, I want the one that will be easiest to work with to install a roof top tent. Thoughts?

I have the frontrunner and it's pretty sweet (no lead time either)! I know they have an accessory that allows you to quick release an RTT very fast.

Thanks for the reply.... looks like the quality of the Frontrunner exceeds the Prinsu, and i’m Going to order one.

:notsure: Prinsu for looks, but not quality, functionality or options? Guess I shouldnt put my RTT, kayaks or mount my Ham antenna up there anymore?

I understand that Prinsu doesnt include expensive add-ons with the Prinsu logo on it, but I wouldnt say its not as functional or is less quality than a Frontrunner - true in that it’s more of a utilitarian rack, but it accepts lots of hardware options and handles a lot of weight due to its roof mount and cross bracing design.

I’d also be worried about a quick release on a RTT, sounds like a target for someone who wants to sell an expensive item on CL. Still trying to figure out a locking system for mine as I worry about comming back to no home away from home when I leave my truck somewhere remote for a hike.

Anyone used the front runner quick release mounts on a prinsu top rack? Looking for something easier to mount and take off of my shell.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I have several racks, put a lot on Landcruisers in the shop. I will agree with the others.
Prinsu has a sick design, however others have made the same design with better quality control.
FrontRunner is just straight up the jam! It’s designed for functionality period. Because of this, it creates more wind noise. Yes you can buy the fairing and that does help.
I own Prinsu currently on 2 trucks, the ones built by OG Prinsu were much better. The CBI ones now have some razor sharp edges, the side rails seem thinner, but have not checked that myself.
    Frontrunners accessories I like:
    - Camp Table (stores underneath)
    - Various Awning brackets
    - Water, Gas, Propane holders
    - I think I have seen a pull out On-Sweet (for like a shower/changing room)

Do these frontrunner accessories work on prinsu/ rocky mountain rack style cross bars?

For someone who has used both, is there a noticeable difference in noise?

Sorry to sound like a safety nut, but I’d never store flammable liquids on the roof of my vehicle. One rollover accident and you’re well done. I know it’s inconvenient, but the safest place to store gasoline in your truck if it has no topper is in a double sealed container to prevent spilling tied down to the bed between the rear axles. If you do have a topper putting it towards the rear and securing it tightly, but again, you want to have it away from the passenger compartment. I’ve seen a rear end accident where a roof top rack got ripped off the SUV and flew forward with gear on it. It was not pretty. And I’ve also responded to another accident where a truck without a bed rolled over and all of the gasoline from the ruptured tank spilled down through the cab’s broken rear window on top of the driver. He was soaking wet, but very lucky nothing ignited.

    Now back to our topic...

A lot of hardware is exchangeable between different types of racks, but going custom is by far the best way to get what you want. The coolest thing about many mom and pop owned neighborhood hardware stores is that they let you try stuff in the parking lot before buying it, and one like our True Value store has old retired vets that were mechanics and such in the service and are a huge help customizing stuff.

I was planning on using the the same screws and rectangular shaped nuts that went behind the wind deflector. Did you use something different?

If you can afford it get the front runner and the quick release clips, they are sweet.
I could not afford it so I went Prinsu style rack with RTT, works great looks great and was more economical.
However, it’s a bit of a pain if you want to take on and off frequently. I opted to just leave the bars on the tent and take off as a unit.

I have the Front Runner quick release RTT mount and the Prinsu rack, but was wondering if anyone had found a secure way to mount the quick release clamps while ensuring they withstand the weight of the tent and a person since they mount underneath the bars instead of above.

I called and asked and they told
    Me the front runner quick
Mounts were NOT compatable. Maybe you could figure something out but then again you might be messing with the integrity of the mount. ?
