I never used one of those, but are you thinking the inside of your bed is a bed liner? Taco's have composite beds it's not a liner

That looks like a good idea, if that main piece could be adapted to fit in the rails of our Trucks then it looks like it would work.

Yeah, inside of the bed. Yeah, I know it’s the actual bed. Still, not too stoked on the idea of putting a 3” hole in it.

Trying to figure out how to make that happen. I have the big plastic cleats that go in the rails. I’m thinking I could grind down the clamp so it would fit inside of the cleat and just clamp to that.

You can get hardware on Amazon that slides in there, I guess all you would need is to drill a hole in that piece.

I’ll have to search on Amazon. Any idea what the hardware is called?

I checked the link and looked through the pictures. There are about 40 “customer added photos” that you can see. A bunch of them are Tacomas. The best I could tell is they didn’t cut anything. The rack seems to clamp to the bedside cap between the cap and the rail. It has an angled bracket that reaches in to clamp it in a solid area. Honestly, it looks like you’ll be good to just install it as it comes out of the box. Also, looks like the only cuts were done in plastic bedliners to access the rail caps. Hope this helps, let us know how it goes

Hard to tell from those pics what's going on. That said, there's no way those clamped on without drilling a hole (directions even mention drilling the hole and provide a plug for when it's not in use). There's nothing to clamp on to. There would need to be some sort of lip for the clamp to fit over, which there isn't. I'm guessing that the Tacomas in the pics drilled the hole in order for it to clamp.

The way I saw it, it seems like they drilled a hole to get to a solid ledge to clamp on to. The Tacoma beds have a lip in it. Keep scrolling through the customer submitted photos, you will see some that look like the clamp is placed in that gap. I am looking st this picture and can’t figure out what you would drill in to to give you a better clamping surface. The best option is already accessible

My bed doesn’t have any sort of lip that the clamp can slip over. The rail is mounted directly to the bed so there’s no room behind it at all.

I’m starting to lean towards platform racks. Which 2 bike ones allows the tailgate to be fully extended with the bikes off and rack flat? For example does the kuat nv allow that?

I think most of the KUAT racks do and the 1UP racks. but I am just tired of having a rack behind me. I have been hauling bikes since 2012 that way and I'm just ready for a change.

The joke is an old one "that only Dentists buy 10K bikes, because they are the only ones that can afford it."

Of course not always true...but like 99% of stereotypes, its kinda true.

I work at a shop that has the Topline brand rack in stock. We've sold it a few times, but some customers have returned it because the bike feels shaky on it. I like the idea, but haven't had much luck with it. We have 2 in stock. Maybe mounting it solidly to a t-nut in the rail would help it out. I'll watch for others experience with this mount.
