What do you think of this idea to boost a tank of 87 octane?:

From people who have purchased the tune. Is it worth the hefty price tag?

If you've come to the conclusion that you're 'considering it'.... YES.

If you're here looking for salvation from that 'Gawd awful 3rd Gen' that you can't wait to get rid of.... MAYBE (Probably YES).

If you're here because you saw a thread about it and didn't know you had issues MAYBE (Probably NO).

    Read the review thread!

And just so it doesn't get too lost in the thousands of posts...
It's for manual but is mostly applicable for auto too.

I have to say YES. I only took a short 17.6 mile drive tonight after installing the 87 octane boost and as far as I'm concerned Toyota owes me $750.00 because THAT is how the truck should behave a drive. I want to drive it a bit more before composing a review, but what a difference so far!

I am also going to test my idea of running low octane gas with an octane boosting additive on the 91 octane tune. I have about a ¼ tank of 89 and tomorrow I'm going to drive 45 mile round trip to work and back. I'm going to pour in the STP Octane Boost that I bought tonight, top off the tank with 89, come home and load the 91 tune then test that out. If all goes well I/we'll be able to run the 91 tune and it will only cost an additional $4/tank.

If the truck runs as I except it will (no issues), once I burn through that tank of gas I will then fill it up with true 93 octane fuel for a comparison.

BTW - I flashed both my ECU and my TCU tonight. It's like a got a new truck. :D

Only 17.5 miles on the 87 tune and TCU flash and I'm loving it already!!!
Quick question, when switching between tunes do we need to let the truck idle 10 - 20 minutes every time before driving it?

I’d say number 2. The transmission/engine behavior makes me want to get a different truck because I’ve never driven anything that struggles so hard to just drive.

AT owners - which transmission profile are you running?

Option A - All Upshift Controls adjusted (for all upshifting on all gears)
Option B- Gears 1-4 upshift adjusted. Gears 5-6 upshift stock
Option C- Gears 2-5 upshift changed. Gear upshift 1-2 stock, 5-6 stock.

I flashed my 2018 AT yesterday and only saw one option for the TCU. Did I miss something?

For those of you on the fence about purchasing OVtune, this post right here ^^ should tell you all you need to know about Mat's dedication to this product.

It's a good chunk of change to be sure, but well worth it IMO. Check out the review thread!

You should read about the octane boosters first. They do not raise the octane level as much as the bottles say .
