Good grief, it should be covered without issue. Glad to see your dealer took care of you and fixed it.

    Really...
They have gone above and beyond for me a few times with this truck.

I'm in the beginning process of filing a claim. My local dealership apparently needs to take my truck to two local body shops to get a quote on the repair. I'll probably have it covered in bed liner as well.

Push your dealer hard. TOYOTA Corp will do nothing for you or them but make excuses that it was your fault. I'd love to see a pic of yours.

Mine is doing the same but I think it’s from the Velcro straps on my bed cover rubbing. Honestly the part comes off with a few screws and can be painted pretty easy with a rattle can. Now if I were the dealer I’d just replace it to keep a customer happy. As long as it’s not corrosion I wouldn’t be too worried.

Everybody can do as they please with their truck but I would not bother with dealership or corporate help. They could replace it and soon have the same problem again. Just remove the rail, take it to a paint shop and bedline it. Much better and durable.

I'm going to let them take care of the labor and have it done professionally. Then I'll take to get bed lined so I should have to worry about it.

    Cheers!

I have the same issue on my 2016. It started a few months after I bought the truck from the dealership..

I hope they're not jerking me around wasting my time since they need the entire truck to take to two different body shops. Oh well. I'll find out tomorrow I get my truck back.

I'm a dick when it comes to shit like this, even if Corp doesn't care enough to honor it, they need to know from all of us theres a problem. Helps out future owners.
Just take the rail off and hand it to your dealer so they don't have your truck. While you're at it, add the 3rd cleat rail!

No, don't bother replacing with the same piece of shit. Bedlined like mine (on their $$) and it looks better and is grippier for me getting on my roof.

Damn it, I joined the club...
My rail has a few very tiny signs like that. Will not deal with the dealer, since I am planning to add the head rail will take it off and have it painted. two questions:
    - how do you take it off
    - what is the best paint to last? Want a bit of texture but not like a skateboard tape.

Very careful with a Torx 8 bit. It will feel like its not gonna budge and then the bolt will "snap" but its the lock tight breaking. I've heard people say they have broken a bolt....

After I get them loose, is the part coming off easy or do I need to open/unscrew more stuff?

    It’ll come off easy.

I sealed the bottom, sides and ends with silicone caulk to keep water from entering the inside and underneath portion.
