Resetting Battery? Any weirdness to this?

If any of ya'll have reset your battery and had weird shit happen...feel free to post in here.

I've been running my A/C on/off through-out the summer. It's always been good and cold almost immediately after turning it on. No biggie.

Today - my husband & I installed some fog lights (will have picts later). Battery was disconnected for say an hour or so as we hooked everything up, ran some tests, disconnected it again..yadda yadda yadda.

So later on, we jump in the truck to run some errands. After about a minute of being on the road, I flip the fans on and turn the A/C on..... waiting... waiting... waiting.... Fans are running fine but no cold air. Shit... So I turn it off/on again, flip the fans off/on, etc. Nothing....
Turn the fans on HIGH and about a couple minutes later, I flip my turnsignals on and suddenly the air comes out cold. Not that the turn signal had anything to do with it...but....

But - is there any delayed reaction in the system after disconnecting the battery (????) that would cause the A/C to not function immediately? Or is this the beginning of some future warrantee work?

We were inside the truck and didn't hear anything to acknowledge a compressor noise. But perhaps tomorrow I'll listen to the compressor ...

 

When ever you unplug the battery, that resets the ECU, basically forcing it to relearn everything. Nothing to be concerned with. Your all good.

But for the A/C to take so long to start sending cool air? I guess I didn't realize the A/C would be directly connected into the programming....(so to speak) and why I asked.

 

Your right, the more i think about it. Not sure where my head was..

The only reason the cold air would be delayed would be because the compressor isn't producing cold air. So it would be mechanical related, not related to the ecu... hmmm.. This has happened to me before in the past once or twice.

Maybe a fuse issue?? When you reconnected the battery?

 

We did pull a couple fuses in the cab fusebox for another purpose but put tham all back in after checking them.

This is weird.... Tomorrow I'll open the hood and watch & listen. See if I hear any grumbles when I turn the A/C on.

I've read a few folks had their A/C compressors seize up on these new gen trucks. That's what I'm afraid of. Although, if its gonna do it...it better do it before March 2010 when my warrantee runs out!!

 

The compressor clutch needs voltage to kick in, and it probably comes from a relay controlled by the climate control module of the computer system.

The problem could just be a sticky relay or perhaps it was knocked loose a bit when messing with the fuses.

OTOH, since the computer must "re-learn" or re-write part of it's own programming based on sensor data and driver input over a period of time (meaning 3 urban driving cycles for an OBD-II system) then it's possible the ECU doesn't get around to the climate control system programming for a bit on purpose, so it can write the necessary instructions for the cold start and cold running portion of the program without drag from the compressor, and then later kicks it on to do the same with the compressor engaged.

I did some brief reading and it is possible that there is computer intervention with all the sensors & pressures of the system and what-not.
And perhaps it won't necessarily re-learn until it's 'cycled' the first time?

Knock on wood ...that's all it was.

 

Went through this as well.Took about 5-10mins. before blowing cold.No worries.
