My grandfather was was wealthy as could be in Cuba, estates, yaughts etc. I agree that having to show birth certificates and all that personal information is crap, but I do think that there should be a sort of id that is like US currencey and very hard to duplicate and if asked to present id the person being asked should pull this id out and that will be the end of it. If you did loose it, or not have it or whatever there should be a list or facial recognition that can tell if the person being accused of being illegal is legal or not.

Everything I was given resources for-including night patrols of ocean and coastal migrant travel routes, months at a time away from home and several week of specialized training to safely and expertly do the best I could in the situations I was presented. .
During the 2 years I was assigned to the last unit I did immigration law enforcement with I stopped more than 2000 illegals from arriving in the United States.
And unless you want to pay a lot more in taxes- That is probably the best you are going to get for a while...even if you accept the fact that allowing police to to their jobs (including checking the validity of a persons legal status in the US). There is no easy answer to a problem like this.
