Does the garnish just attach to the 18 Pro grille or do you need anything additional to fasten it? Was able to order both, I'll see if they cancel it because I didn't enter a vin.

It attaches with 2 clips which are part of the garnish itself.

2 star washers hold the garnish in place.

I ordered 5 from 5 different dealers. One by one they cancelled my orders.

There is play in the garnish if you don’t have them. For a $1.50 it’s not worth skipping.

Definitely needed in my opinion. Only two tabs secure it at the bottom, and the two pins at the top need to be secured otherwise the plate could fall forward and out of the grill.

Went to Ace hardware. They were in a box labeled “Push Nuts”. I used the 1/4” size. $0.43each. Definitely needed. Way too loose without them. And really it’s only wedged in place if you don’t. $0.86 (plus tax) is cheap insurance for the $60 garnish.

Side note. Am I the only one that finds it odd that the PRO grill isn’t held in with any screws but the OR grill had 8 screws in addition to all the clips?

    none yet

Second that, I was looking last night and couldn't believe the variations in the price. First thing I thought was half of these are probably cheap knock offs.

I think now that we know the 2017 grille will fit up with the 2018 garnish ordering from Amazon is fine. Olathe Toyota will sell the 2017 (35170) grille for $320 so Olathe has the better price.
The grille that I saw on Amazon was the 35170 not the 35180 which is the 2018 part.

Traded my 2nd gen in on 3rd gen yesterday and just thought I would share the info I got at the dealer about the Pro Grille...

This is from Mountain State Toyota in Denver, CO

    P/N: PT228-35170 - $280.30
P/N: PT228-35180 - They told me it doesn't even show up in their system

    Garnish P/N: 53141-35060 - $73.82

They said they could order and it would be here in two days (I did not order because I wanted the 18' grille) but it is a no refund part because it is special order.

Just thought I would share my explorations.

From my area in Ventura County SoCal I would tell you that is a good price for a #35170 grille and since it is interchangeable with the #35180 which is difficult to get right now (for whatever reason) I would probably buy it for my situation. You do need garnish #53141-35060 to make it factory complete.
I paid $49 for that garnish and $186 for the #35180 grille that I still haven't got. Remember though that the #35170 grille seems to be more expensive then the #35180 everywhere you go.
If the guy can't even find #35180...Well I don't know what to say. It seems to be a bit of a mess right now.

I just came from my Toyota dealer an hour ago Tuesday afternoon to check on my #35180 that I ordered in mid-February and the parts manger told me this:
"Several selected dealerships have been ordering the Pro Grilles and "other" items in large amounts to make up their own dealer packages on the Tacoma trucks. That is why they are now all back ordered."
They are releasing the parts selectively according to him.

I just ordered the 35180 and garnish as well from my local toy dealer, my buddy is the parts manager and is trying really hard to get one for me. Said none in the 3 state region so not looking good so far.

Glad I went with the knock off, sounds like OEM is a pain. This was annoying though, had to take a Dremel to these two dabs of melted plastic to remove the garnish. Guess any corners they can cut they will.

Still, worth the savings for me though.

Same for me. I figured with a brand new truck, can't cut corners - especially with the first upgrade. I STILL need to put the garnish on, but I ordered it 5 minutes after getting the grill off the truck haha.

So just to be clear, if you get your hands on a 16 or 17 Pro grille, OEM or Chinese, they both have the opening for the TSS and both will accept the garnish?
