necessary to drain rear diff?

If your front breather is located under the hood then you wouldn't need to change the fluid. I also believe your tranny and trans. are fine.

 

Do you mean if I have already done the extension in the front under the hood? Or do you mean that the front diff breather is already in a safe place? Cause the riverI went through was plowing up to my headlights in the front and about 3 inches from the bottom of the doors on the side.

 

i would do the front diff breather mod also, and i would go ahead and change my diff fluid in the front also...same as front...water gets in there, and them gears are gonna be fubarred!!!

 

I thought that the diff breather was already safe?

 

honestly....i havent looked on the 05+ tacomas to see where the breather location is. if its like the first gens.....it needs to be done.

hey chris......what about the tranny and transfer case? where are the breather on those.....are they extended??

 

i gotta extend mine on my 04 pretty soon. im gonna have to see if i can find the correct part numbers so i get the right shit to do it with.

 

i especially wanna do mine before our next tacoma meet.....and we will probably do tigerfan's truck too.........as uwharrie has some good deep mud holes if it has been raining!!!

 

yep.....you definitely need to do yours, especially since you have an lsd.

 

Whats the deal with the LSD rear end anyways? Do you use different diff oil than 80w90? Any advantages or dis advantages? thanks.

 

the lsd diffs have clutch packs that are very sensitive, and they require an oil with a limited slip addative. on an open diff/or diff with a locker.........regular 80w90 is fine.....on my 04 with the rear locker....i use mobil1 75w90 synthetic, and i like it alot. you dont need addatives/friction modifiers with an open diff like you do with a limited slip diff.

 

So on the 05+ the rear diff and tranny should be extended? And then you're good to have fun in the water?

 

yeah, and also, if you have 4 wheel drive.....the transfer case vent may need to be extended also.

 

Well damn, I was hoping it was only going to be the rear. How much do you estimate this will cost doing all three... and estimated time it will take to do it.
