Yea the bugs, I was wondering when it was going to come up.

We often avoid camping for a few months in the summer due to them, because we can go camping every single weekend if we want :cookiemonster:

on the topic of bugs, given it seems to be becoming a bigger and bigger issue now to the point they even had a booth at the sportsman show about it, lymes and ticks.

Would be smart if everyone coming or for that matter anyone that goes camping learns how to check for ticks and how to remove etc. And should be doing checks daily.
After seeing how bad it was for my cousin in the US who got Lyme's no thanks.
Shit's nasty, and I've found ticks in the Kawartha's and Minden area, so wouldn't doubt there are some in Ardbeg too and here.

just thought of something else, fuel for cooking.
not sure what everyone carries but even a 5lb tank could run out if used a lot.
Should be prepared with proper amounts of fuel for cooking or rely on fire.

I have a twig stove I always bring with me in case, just a though make sure you have enough propane, butane, or whatever fuel your stove uses.

Consider you will be using it possibly 2-3 times a day depending on what your breakfast and lunch is.

Agreed. Also baggies to get the ticks checked afterwards for lime.
For who ever is interested. Canadian tire has the small 5lb bottles for $50 and I have used it for a full summer (2 weeks cooking in it atleast once a day) and it only costs $5 to fill up.

Joe maybe you thought of the 1lb green bottles? Those don’t last long.

I just got a 5lb last year .Figured you could provide some insight into how long a tank last.

You'll know from the point of bite if it's Lyme but doesn't hurt to have the tick to test

A season. Including the winter. I filled mine up on my first trip two years ago. Did a trip out east for 2 weeks, an ardbeg trip, then for 1 week and it finally emptied. Since that trip I have used it during the winter for my buddy heater. Lasts way longer than the 1lb green tanks.

Again all depends on use and your stove. Last year I had maybe a month of cooking in it plus this winter and it’s still going.

    Plus $5 to fill lol

Yep the refill is why I got one.
Not to be a tree hugger but the waste in 1lb tanks is stupid and in the long run 5lb tank is better anyways.

But guess as long as you have a 5lb tank shouldn't be a worry for the whole trip

Yup. You figure you’ll cook on it atleast twice a day. Heater won’t be used...I’ll probably use it for the summer and only fill it once.

Ya I figure for me it's likely dinner and definitely breakfast for oatmeal.

That said as long as there's no fire ban I'll be doing a lot of cooking on my fire pit thing I have

I just bought a 1lb bottle refiller for $15. I havent used it yet but hopefully it works decent.
Just use the 20lb from the bbq to fill my little green ones. I think i have 8 now. Half still full.

Just inconvenient to carrie a bunch, but it was a cheaper investment and usually i only need 1-2 for a weekend. This trip will be the exception where i bring 4-5

For the price might want to look into just getting a 5lb one.

I've heard those refill things don't always work, and it's not really the safest thing lol

Not 100% positive but I’m pretty sure those are mostly if not all hiking/biking trails if I’m not mistaken
