for photos. I am digging the idea of carrying additional gas mostly. I feel like to go really remote, 5 gal isn't going to cut it, so another 5 gal, or even 10 underneath would be awesome. Was thinking about doing some weird interim using this:

Just to get me through my trip in April. I can even ratchet strap it in place probably. Though lifting up and attempting to ratchet strap 5 gallons over my head as I am laying on my back sounds fucking miserable. It will likely just get thrown in the bed

 

Or put the spare back under there and put the gas in the bed

 

Great use of the spare tire space. I saw this and it reminded me of a post awhile back on the CO for sale thread. A TW member had a custom tank built to go where the spare tire is. Not as cost effective as a Jerry can and a ratchet strap.

I have seen other guys do some slick aux tank shit in that location. Really dig those setups too but it would be more versatile to do a setup like Ryan’s to store extra water too if I wanted to.

Didn't have a chance to grab photos today and the lighting in my garage sucks.

Are you talking about carrying 15 gallons? Might as well put a fuel cell in at that point. That doesn't sound fun trying to ratchet strap 5 gallons up there, I'm sure it's doable though. Not sure how accessible a welder and chop saw is to you but it took me about 2 or 3 hours to make the carrier.

 

I do plan on swapping one of mine to water at some point.

 

Talked to Ben at Filthy Motorsports today and he recommended setting the shocks up outboard the frame with a 2.0. I'm not going this route because I don't want to run wheel spacer and have a wider track. He also mentioned I should setup my mounts before I order the shocks. This seemed kind of backwards to me but they are currently 6-8 weeks out so I won't be getting them before my April trip so I'm going to at least wait until I get the springs in so I can get a better idea of measurements. I'm pretty confident I'm going to want the shortest shock they can build.

 

Yeah, seems like odd advice.

Just get the upper mount as high as possible, and adjust the lowers to fit.

 

This is my plan.

 

A shop will want you to measure your distance between the shock mounts at ride height, full compression and full droop so you get the correct sized shock for your needs. There are a lot of variables in shock mounting and they don’t want to sell you the wrong thing

 

Very backwards in my mind. We always had base measurements in our head of shock location and expected lengths. Also factor in angle of the shock relative to the travel. The should be able to get valving close.

Really, you know you're going to run a short body remote resi shock. Not many length options there.

 

Makes sense, Ben definitely seems interested in getting things right the first time.

 

I was looking at getting a cordless sawsall today and for some reason this thought crossed my mind. Anyone ever jump start a vehicle with a cordless tool battery? I've been dragging my feet on getting a jump pack but if I've got a M18 Milwaukee battery in my truck I don't see the point in having both.

 

I very highly doubt that a cordless tool battery can put out the amperage required to turn an engine over. At least without some sort of added circuitry etc.

Being able to look at my welds with the bed off makes it pretty apparent how terrible they are! Embarrassing lol

LOL, that pivot piece to the frame does look like it is holding on by a thread.

 

And x2 on shock mounting, get the top high as possible and the bottom is where ever it needs to be. Honestly I wasn't super stoked dealing with Ben when I got my rears, he was a PITA to get a hold of and then after I got my shocks and the fittings weren't right he basically told me to kick rocks and figure it out myself.

 

Yeah, I went through Ben for my coilovers, and it was a bit of a struggle to get ahold of him most of the time. When I bought my rear smoothies, I went with Micah at DSM and the whole process was a cool breeze. He was super helpful over the phone too.

 

He's usually been 2 days behind responding to his emails but has always gotten back. Sounds like he is extremely busy.
