The cab cage mock up is pretty much done beside the corner gusset over the B and C pillar, overhead tubes, side of the driver and passenger. I made a lower tube across the bottom of the C pillar that ties onto the top of my frame. I did that because I might have to raise the floor depending on up travel of the upper links. We will see.

Ok here’s my list of lengths of tubes needed for the cab cage. I measured everything from outside of tubes of the cage adding an extra 3.5” to each piece. I’m going to need a total of 118.16’ of DOM and 30.16” of HREW steel. I’m still going to brake the list down to which pieces are going to cut out of 25’ sticks.

Started on the bed cage. Here is a basic idea. It’s looking like I might pre Fab the bed cage and then be able to weld it to the truck after I make it. I’ll see. It will be nice if I can then I can have the bed cage powder coated before welding it to the bed. Of corse shock mounts and bump stop cans will not be added until after I cycle everything. But the main portion of the bed cage can be made off of the truck with taking measurements from the truck. The plan is to have a fuel cell right behind the cab. A pair of batteries behind that and then my dual spares stacked on the rear. I’ll be adding a spot for my floor jack between the spares and bedsides. On the opposite side I’ll run my rotopax.

Whats the plan with turning PVC into metal? Are you just going to cut/bend/notch metal tube based on the PVC length/bend/notch, or were you just trying to figure out total lengths needed?

Yes and yes. The PVC helps me figure out bends and how much tube I'm going to need to order. The bends I do with the pvc are really close to a 6.5" die for the bender. So I'll be able to copy the pvc bend angles straigt over to the tube. I'm going to order eight 20' DOM and two 20' HREW from Insain and rent the shop so I can use the tools to cut and bend. I'll do all the notching at home because that is going to take the longest time to do. I will also clean/ buff the steel where ever I need to weld and join tubes together. I won't have the funds for the steel for a few more weeks, do to other things I'm obligated to do at the moment. But I'm hoping to be able to get started mid to late April. For now I'm going to be starting on the mounts on the frame that the cage is going to sit on. I'm pretty much going to folllow how JD did his.

Because of cost. DOM is twice the cost of HREW and if I can use HREW for some of the non structural part of the cage I will. So basicly all the tubes that run across the floor are HREW and some gussets. The floor tubes are just there to help with keeping everything square, they don't have much structural support to the cage. The gussets are only 6"-8" long. So as long as I keep the seam inside the gusset it will be fine. Plus most of those gussets come into each other. The metal will bend around the gusset before the HREW will split from the seam.

I talked to Corey today and he told me it's either 20' or 24' sticks. So I based everything off of 20' sticks for my cuts. I added an extra stick of each just in case and if I don't screw it up then I can use it for the bed cage.

We sell DOM at our place and its considered random length. That means if they sell 20's could be anywhere from 18'-21'. Make sure to let them know you need at least 20' each and they'll hopefully go through and measure.

Thanks for that info. I'll check with my bud Corey and make sure. I can always adjust my cuts per stick depending on length.
