Best of luck @1st&lastTaco! On one hand you were pretty lucky to score 2 different manual tans 3rd gens, but on the other hand you were pretty unlucky to have issues with both of them. I have a '17 TRD OR with 6 Speed Manual and zero issues in 42,000 miles. Let's hope the dealer/warranty fix is the end of the problems and you can shift your Tacoma into 1st gear, let out the clutch, and proceed to drive off happily into the sunset. Just like in all the good ol' western novels.

So the transfer case fluid leaked internally into an area between the transfer case and transmission? So there's no way to spot check if there's a leak? Great...

That’s the same approach I have taken with all of Toyotas. When the plastic breaks, time for steel. I have a Demello OR bumper on the way. Is that a ARB?

Had numerous 2nd gen. I would take my 16 or 18 any day over any 2nd gen I ever owned. The only reason to buy a 2nd gen would be if you couldn't afford a third gen or are fond of that 13 year old retro style of the 2nd gen.

Truck has been on the west coast all its life, frame is in good shape. You think they'd replace it even if nothing's wrong?

I'd have them check it since you are almost out of time for the warranty. I'm not even being snarky here.

I didn't say you were. I'm all for keeping my truck in the best shape possible. I'll run it by there sometime this week and see what the tech has to say.
