Not necessarily full camping load out but same heavy load out as I carried previously. So fair comparison was present.

Just a quick update everyone. I’ve been meaning to make a dedicated thread for The Drifter, but we’ve been working on getting the shop production ready. I have a few documents that just need to be ironed out for public release.

    Production models getting burned in!

...Does this mean there won't be an option for side access? (Meaning a hatch/windoor.)

We’ll have Windoors for sure. I’m a huge fan of them and will run them on mine. The solid sides are for the base model.

Looks like the tailgate keeps attached with the new design. Will a walk-in or hatch door without tailgate be an option, such like on your V1?
The shell looks beautiful, I really need to come by one day to check it out in person.

+1 for the walk in rear door. Door within a door would be great so the majority of rear can be opened to fit large items and a regular personnel door for normal use. I am always dealing with dust all over everything in the bed. I would like to not deal with it anymore and the contractor backs really help seal the back of the bed.

This may be an intuitive question, but on the long bed version... will there be more space between the tailgate and bed platform compared to SB. I saw on IG you mentioned a bigger bed would be on the LB version. Or is that just an option? Also will SB vs LB be priced differently?

-also any thoughts on if these things can be shipped to east coast? Or do I have a cross country trip to plan?

We'd really like to! We are working to keep the costs down and seeing how to integrate that option into our design.

The amount of room to stand up is the same on the short and long bed. The only thing that changes is the room under the bed, SB's have about a foot less than the LB. SB and LB are the same price. We are working on shipping, but these things get expensive to move fast! We are working on solutions, but a coast to coast trip to break in your new camper sounds fun :)

    Iggy,

Thanks for the quick response. I would get a camper with the contractor rear door for sure. Did Tacos have 8' bed options like the Gen 1 tundra?

    Regards,
    John

My pleasure! We'll keep everyone updated on developments. Unfortunately only 5 and 6's on the 2nd gen and above.

^ Just guesswork on my part but to support the lid, tent, a couple of big 'merican bodies, the imparted leverage from the rear door(s) system(s) it would seem an underlying structural cage would be still be needed...

You will be very impressed with the engineering that went into the Drifter. It is damn impressive.
No cage. We want a real camper. Not a bed rack with a RTT thrown on top :notsure:

The whole structure is very strong. We have stood on the roof, hung off the front and the camper doesn't budge. In fact the truck bed moves more than the camper.

What is the internal allowable height for mattress and bedding (pillows, sleeping bag/comforter)? Having extensively used several RTTs and given my advanced age :D it would be nice to be able to accommodate a 4" thick mattress plus pillows & sleeping bag/comforter.

Since the 3rd gen has slightly higher bedsides, would the Drifter on a 3rd gen clear the shark fin?

It will come with a 3” mattress. And there’s enough room for bedding
