Damn, that means I may have to drive to FL to have Timbo weld it up for me.

If I were to do it again, I would gladly drive to FL. It’s always nice to have someone who has done it before. I made one mistake that cost me an additional 5-6 hours of work. Instead of tack welding, then checking, I just went weld crazy. Cost me more time in grinding then re-welding. Got so frustrated I just wanted to light the truck on fire and watch it burn. Lol
And guess what.... it still ain’t right. That’s what I’m planning on fixing this weekend.

I'm planning multiple cross country trips over the next decade as well as one up the ALCAN. Flexibility might not be what I want when it comes to dealing with a lot of different terrains, weather and road conditions with significant loading on the back of the truck. The 4+1 leaf pack might be a better option.

Gonna start working on conning (oops, I mean convincing) the wife she needs to visit her relatives in Jacksonville (Oh honey, lets take a ride down to Palm City and visit my friend while we are here!!!)

I keep hearing that once you load them pretty good and get them flexing then they flatten really bad and/or can go into a reverse arch. Mostly because of the shackle flip. Do you find this to be true. I have been looking at maybe a custom 63" spring set up from alcan or deaver with some more curve to combat this.

First time I heard of shackle flip issue. I bought my AllPro Expeditions a few years ago and used a shackle flip but a recent look at their web site shows they would now void the warranty on those same springs if you use one. Wonder if I am loosing tension in my springs?

I've had no issues. @Timbo's Customs may be able to elaborate.

Not sure if it is solely due to shackle flip as the chevy trucks factory shackles are the same as ours. But it may also be the front mount area. The chevy springs are not that curved to begin with either. I have no experience with this swap so I am just theorizing and looking at a bunch of pics of people's set ups etc.

As long as the shackle angle at ride height is 45 degrees or more toward the rear you shouldn't be able to bring the shackle past vertical when flexed. I'm only assuming of course, math and geometry and shit is not my forte'. It makes sense in my simple mind, though.

So what I have seen and heard is on the bump side when flexing the shackle of course goes to lay flat and then the springs begin to flatten out and can get into a neg arch. You are correct on the droop side and setting the shackle angle @45* gives you the same amt. of swing fore and aft. What I am seeing may be from guys who are laying them at an even more acute angle so that it has more droop and less bump. Some of them are very vague on the set ups. Hell I may be over thinking it anyways.

Yeah if that isn't your strong suit don't try understanding instant centers, and roll center, or any other dynamic suspension movement it can get ridiculous.

None of the 6 swaps I’ve done have issues. Brian did at first because the springs he bought were not oem but aftermarket. They hold load good and I have my springs set a little more for drop then up.

At full stuff and bump, my springs are flat with no negative arch.

 What did you do in Key West? The keys are my favorite place in FL aside from the Everglades and Okefenokee swamp. FL is pretty awesome!

Get OEM Chevy leafs off of an 88-98 C1500 from a junkyard. I paid $50 for mine. Clean them up with a wire wheel and repaint them.
