How do you like that setup with your 7.3? I’ve got damn near a twin tow rig...2000 SCSB 4x4 and I’ve browsed goosenecks to do something similar. Just a little worried about it being too much for a SRW 7.3 truck

I have around 13,000lbs behind me with the trailer fully loaded. I did add air bags and I need to install my larger transmission cooler, but other than that she does just fine.

There's one like that here at Katemcy this weekend with a flatbed in the back for the buggy.

Fwiw my friend has a 30ft goose neck and we have towed two rigs on the trailer 80+mph all day with his 6.0. that was between it blowing up lol. When it ran it was awesome, so I imagine a 7.3 would be great. You would forget you are towing something after a while, sucks for the people you are passing and you start merging!

I’ve done that more often than I’d like to admit! I do like the idea of being able to take two trucks on longer trips like Moab so the fuel bill can be split

I’d be a few years away from seriously contemplating a bigger trailer/slide in...need to get through the wedding and her out of college before dropping some more coin on this deep dark rabbit hole of a hobby

The 6.0 was a disaster for Ford with that stupid head stud. I was never impressed with it. I had two 7.3's, then a 6.0. It was certainly a quicker truck but when it came to pulling the 7.3 would run circles around it.

The heads aren’t bad with stock power, people threw a lot of timing and fuel in with tunes that lifted heads. It’s the EGR, FICM, turbo and sticky injectors that are bigger issues. The injectors and FICM are killers because there isn’t a real fix, you just have to replace them periodically.

More or less the same thing, different tunes for more bottom end in the VT365, lower hp and a lower redline. Better than the MaxxForce line that replaced it though...Navistar is lucky they survived through 2016 after all the backlash on the MaxxForce debacle

Yea it's been a ton problems for him in recent years. It always worked when I had to use it though! There's some plug on the back of the block that keeps popping under load and it dumps all the oil out, I guess thats what gives him the most problems these days.

If you never had to do an EGR/oil cooler in that time frame, then one of them probably contributed or caused the HG to go. The HG’s aren’t overly strong so it doesn’t take much to push them over the edge with a broken EGR cooler especially.

    TLDR: Still don’t buy a 6.0

I had a built 7.3 and the trans to support the power that thing was a beast when it came to towing and what not. Not the fastest truck in the world but the only engine I'd prefer over it would of been a 24v Cummins just didn't want the truck that comes with that engine. I had a crew cab dually f350 that I converted Essentially to a wide track f550. But that towed like a dream. I would be more concerned abt the srw more than that 7.3 dually is so much more stable and can control the load better in heavy crosswinds and such.

You have a 4.7 in front of your transfer case? How are you liking it? What do you find yourself mostly in, double low?

Correct, I have a 4.7 gear in the inchworm case. I can't imagine wheeling without it now.

If I'm cruising around the access roads or light wheeling I'll stick with 2wd low, but if it requires any kind of climbing I'm in double low. Double low and row through the gears as necessary works great.

    Sure is.

I upgraded the new batch to four magnets and grey neoprene.
