That's dumb. Pay to be somewhere where I won't even be on their trail system. No thanks.
I'll pay to play, where I PAID to be!

Who's to say that IF Hollerwood opens, they won't create borders of their "property" and in turn block off the DBBB and Zachariah? Someone will see opportunity to rape the land and take people's money and then we're fucked.
Maybe the guy that owns Rush is just rich as fuck (which he is) but he was a Jeep guy before that and rode there. Had the cash to buy the whole damn shebang and did. Sure, they make a profit, but they aren't blocking you from going anywhere either.

That's the main trail to the playground after it rains. If it's during the summer months it isn't like that at all but right now and after this weather it would look somewhat like that. There are all kinds of hills on that whole bank side there to climb and play around on.

Not "dumb"....It's simple capitalism and free enterprise....No different than any other business. No one is forcing us to join... And BTW, they already have some limited control as far as accessing trails adjoining their property. They are already posting no trespassing signs and whatnot. You have the option of NOT paying and not using their land, as well as they have to option of not allowing you, me, or anyone else to cross without belonging to their "club". It's private property. They can always just shut it down and deny access 100%...

Or you can find a way AROUND it. Personally, if they get it up and running, I'm all over a membership. Just not pitching in until I see more indication they can pull this off.

The property where my house is located is actually TWO separate tracts. 1.2 acres where the house is located, and my "back yard" which is 6.6 acres of undeveloped land. This back yard is the only access to 11 acres of landlocked property behind it. 3 developers from the area are wanting to build patio homes on that landlocked ground. I'm all for it....PROVIDED they pay me an exorbitant fee for my 6.6 acres so they can build an entrance to the 11 acres. It's simple "business"... And I'm not some evil empire trying to cut off someone elses livelihood...I'm just trying to make a buck (Well, a BUNCH of bucks) I'm asking about 2-1/2 times what the property is worth, willing to settle for 2 times.

In plain and simple terms, I'm using my investment to get what I want so someone else can get what THEY want. Not one bit different than what Hollerwood appears to be all about...

Next Black Mountain trip we're branching off from the giant group and doing all the blue trails. I'm convinced that could become my favorite park but we barely scratched the surface of blues. Rush had some stuff that looked good too

Harlan has all the off-roading you need. 2nd best place i've been to growing up besides old Cromer Ridge.

That’s not how it works on the east coast man.

We barely have any public land so you’ve got to pay to play. I’d gladly pay for land access to keep the area open and support the owner. Trails don’t cut themselves, they don’t maintain themselves, and they don’t have built in facilities. The USFS and TU would love to close down all of the land in the smokies if they had their way. Becoming involved in local clubs and supporting land owners are the best ways to make sure we still have a place to wheel.

That was the plan this past year. Then I was late getting there....And a few people went "exploring", then it rained, ect... Gonna do blue as well as some red trails. I've been on about 10 different red trails that weren't all that tough relative to many blues. It's the BLACK trails most of us want to avoid.

If I get to do what I wanted to do, we'll have a select group of maybe 8 or 10 (at the most) to do some exploring @ Black Mountain. 40 or 50 is WAY too many. More than 10 is too many...

That's 1 thing I do love about out West, it feels like actual freedom with all of the public land.

I have a feeling a lot of my opinions about our area trails will diminish somewhat once I spend 8 days in Moab.

For sure. You have a lot more freedom out that way... No one to stop and tell you, "No, you can't come through here". Also, no one to come running to your rescue for a little while if you get stuck or lost though lol.

It’s different out there. Not much of Moab is technically very challenging but the consequences of a mistake are dire...lots of sheer drops and elevation. A ton of off camber too. It’s also super clean, there’s no trash anywhere like there is here. You can tell people respect the land and it’s availability. The town is fun too because they really embrace the off-road culture

Exactly. Quite a few of those land owners couldn't care any less if we can wheel on public property near them. But we have to respect their opinions, agree with them or not. Work WITH them, not against them. Public land is as much ours as it is anyone else's. But their vote is the only one that counts to politicians who control our destiny. It's a game. You have to play it by their rules, agree with those rules or not.

Get off the marked trails and the locals will have your ass if they see you. They respect the land on a level much higher than out here.

For sure, but its still a totally different culture than what people see here on the East Coast. Also, we have a lot of people that pollute and dump junk in our water streams, and whatever that water picks up along it's path, which isn't a problem out West. A few rainy days off of someone's trashy property around here, dumps it up 3 counties over in the woods somewhere off a riverbank.

As much as I like Rush and how close it is, I'd much rather pay member dues to a club that helps upkeep in the Daniel Boone Forest loooooong before I'll pay for a yearly pass at the OR park.

Not opposed to joining BOTH/any worthwhile group. I have a feeling Rush has a lot more to offer than we know about so far. From what a few regulars have told me, we may have just scratched to surface.

We're simply in a pay to play part of the country...RRG is the exception (so far) but don't be shocked if/when there gets to be a yearly fee assessed there at some point.
