Is ‘learning’ lifelong on the Taco AT or a one time thing??

I got the sprintbooster and am quite happy with everything but i know some people have issues that will make them
Get ovtune as it fixes more issues than throttle lag such as shift points. It adds a few ponies and gives a little more tourque. Makes 6th gear usable. Downside is using 91 octane to benefit. I dont know all about it, but most are pleased with it. Its all in your budget and how displeased you ate now. I may end up with ovtune and sell my sprint booster, but sprintbooster fixed my main problem which was throttle lag. Thete are haters, but those are the guys who have never tried it and just go by what other haters have said on forums. 10 minute install. Piece of cake

If you are on the fence about sprintbooster, i would say take the leap. I guarantee night and day results. Like i said best thing since sliced bread. Anyone who has it can only understand that statement

On another note, there are guys who have upgraded to ovtunes, probably looking to sell used sprintboosters for cheap so i would start there

    Tires are a big one.
Although I don't have any significant shifting issues besides just an auto trying to stay in a certain range I notice a significant difference between when I had my 265 70 17 on in the summer to my 265 70 16 winters on right now.

Even though it's just a 1" difference. Can't wait to see the big difference 33s make when the 285 go on

I understand stand it's for throttle input, but do your shift points seems to line up better with throttle input and the Sprint boost?

Absolutely. I am stunned at the number of people complaining about the truck.

Mine has bigger tires and still runs smooth and performs great.

I totally agree. I believe vehicles take after their owners. Naggy owner, naggy vehicle. Incompetent owner, incompetent vehicle. Etc.

What is really funny to me is that I come from nothing but high performance vehicles, so if anything, I was sure to feel the “lack of performance”.

Sorry to disappoint (some of you) but there is none. 3G Tacos are solid trucks / performers.

Some of you all must be serious vehicle hypochondriacs.

Putting the truck in 6th gear in "S" mode is exactly there same as putting in in D. There is no difference between the 2 modes.

All the S does is limit the top gear you're in. So putting it in 3 would make the truck shift from 1-3 on its own but not go above 3rd.

What is the problem with your truck?

Did you not test drive it?

Why buy something you werent pleased with?

The truck acts like a redheaded step child. Which did not particularly start until approximately 500 miles.

If you're having truck problems I feel bad for you son, I got ninety nine problems but a truck ain't one...

On a serious note, all vehicles have their idiosyncrasies. Learn whatever quirks you are dealing with or do something about it. Take charge of that truck! It will only do what you put into it (with a little money).

o_O I see it that I shouldn't have fix factory or design defects. At 22k miles I have gotten to know it's quirks very well. The problem is it wants to be in 4th gear all the time. This allows the engine to surge with no transfer to the drive train until it finds the right gear. When it finally chooses a gear, it typically jerks/kicks you forward much faster than you intended.

Not trying to overstate the obvious (these issues have been beaten to death here), but have you had the level checked and/or changed the ATF, along with TSB updates? Wasn’t there a batch of trucks filled with the wrong ATF grade at one point? I had a Ford that behaved much the same and getting the ATF changed solved all the problems. I dunno. I feel for you man. That’s an expensive truck to be disappointed with. I hope the issues get sorted for you.

Or just have higher standards from previous generations.

After the diff recall was completed it ran great for about 5000 miles, but now it's back to the wierd shifting before the entire carrier was replaced.

Lol... tell me again about higher standards!

3G surpases standards of previous generations.

At least thats what Toyota and their engineers think... But who cares... who are those guys anyways!

Crappy. Sounds like you need a big “ECU reset” button installed in your dash.

It would probably be cheaper to put the 4.0 v6 in it. Lol

    Its different power bands.

3G makes quite a bit more power than 2Gs, but the power is up top. You have to rev the truck. Can not be affraid of getting on the pedal.

2g has a fatter torque curve so it makes the truck FEEL more powerful, when in fact it is the 3G which is more powerful.

Transmission “hunts” because it is trying to put you in the meat of the power band.

I guess I can see how this can bother someone that is not used to reving their vehicle.

I just rolled over 11,200 and haven't had any issues what so ever. When I first got it, it shifted weird as it was unpredictable, but as I have driven it, I believe it is predictable now and does exactly what I want it to do. My only gripe--if there is one--is when it shifts at around 37mph and goes into Atkinson cycle and becomes a dog. My mpg shot up at around 10,000 miles and I average around 18.9 city driving.
