    I lift 5-6x a week. I don't go easy either. I have a trainer 2x a week as well.

I can eat 10k calories a day at mcdonalds and LOSE WEIGHT, for me I need to eat real food. I can eat shit food all day and it will do nothing to me. It's important to eat the right foods and the right macros for your body, or it will not respond the way you want it to. 5k calories a day, in clean healthy food is over 5 pounds of chicken breast and 15 cups of white rice. I am not doubting what you claim your husband eats, but real food of over 5k calories is ALOT of food.

Gaining is hard for most, because they do not sustain consistency. Eat same meals every day, exact same time, exact same water intake, 7 days a week and anyone will see progress including phil health.

Nov’16 was my first attempt at a bulk and I was eating 4200cal/day and didn’t gain anything for 3 months. It was so frustrating and a shit ton of food. Chicken, beans, rice, potatoes, avocados...I would sit down to eat and still be full from the last meal. My workouts were hypertrophy-esque with 10-15min of cardio built in, 6-7 days per week. I eventually dropped to 4-5 days per week and cut all forms of cardio and never did any sets over 3-4reps and took long ass breaks. I ended up gaining about 10lbs in the next 3months but it was still a frustratingly slow process. I cut 12lbs in 4 weeks (Last May) and then gave up until I met my coach this past November. I’ve since put on 20lbs and had substantial strength gains at only 3500-3800cal per day.

I think it takes a while to slow your metabolism before your body adapts to what you are trying to do. I can still spend a weekend eating like shit and weigh in on Monday morning without gaining a pound though (like last weekend :anonymous:)

Thats actually the problem. We eat pretty much all whole foods and virtually no processed foods (I can’t eat them so they aren’t allowed in the house 99% of the time). So its harder to meet the cals needed.

He also doesn’t care a whole heck of a lot for lifting. He’d rather play basketball 2 hours a day.

He’s trying out Wendler’s 5/3/1 plan where he basically just does the main lift each day and that’s it. I’m interested to see how that works out given less lifting = less calories burned so lower TDEE.

The last time I tried to bulk after a cut it was the same thing. Couldn’t gain for months then all of a sudden it kicked in.

I live like 30 minutes from the closest college so that's not an option. So far i'm inclined toward Fitness 19. Is Fitness 19 good? 20.99 initiation fee and 19.99 a month or 58.99 and 9.99 a month.

9.99 sounds awesome to me if they have the equipment you want to use and arent overly crowded.

I go nowhere near Planet Fitness.

I go to a French gym.
    La Fitness.

I wish they made gyms like @ThunderCookies den. Sex swings included in the monthly fee.

I didn’t mean go to a college now. Just meant for after you graduate high school. If you go on college tours, make sure you check out the gyms :benchpress:

Never heard of Fitness 19. Probably similar to the chains around here. Fitness Connection, O2, Lifetime Fitness, Anytime Fitness. Most of them are $19-25/Mo with either no joining fee or something like $20-$50.

The powerlifting gym I go to is $75/Mo for unlimited or $25 for 5x a month, which is what I do because it is 30min away so I only go about once a week. I usually work out at the country club in my neighborhood but I’m gradually weening away from them because it’s not worth the expense. I also have a gym in my house that I’m starting to use for myself more (instead of just with clients) but I’m also looking at joining the YMCA or Lifetime that aren’t too far away from me too.

Where I go charges me $29.95 a month

Having said that, I’ve had a membership there almost since they opened so...that’s why it’s as cheap as it is. Once you’re a member you can use the facility 24 hours.

That's not a bad price. Where I go they're not 24 hours but are cheaper. I can't lift late at night anyway, I'll never go to sleep. lol

Yeah, I thought it was a fair price.
I don’t go late at night either but, I guess it’s nice to have the option. I find that going to the gym mid day works best for me. It breaks up the sedentary day at the office and is when I tend to have the most energy.

Whats the overall opinion on egg yolks in a given day? Used to only do 2...now I’m eating 3/day. Trying to get more nutrients out of real food instead of protein powder. Might just up it to 6. My dad has some chickens that are laying a bunch of eggs and there’s always a bunch available.

Its a waste to throw away a yolk. No reason not to consume them.

I eat 5-6 eggs every day. I love em :D

They are cheap and have necessary fats and protien.

Oh yeah, no yolks go to waste here either. I just only eat 3 eggs in a day. You’ve inspired me to up it to 4. I also eat a big jar of natty smuckers peanut butter throughout the week.

I have never counted calories. Idk how many grams of protein im at right now or fat or carbs or anything. I did a rough estimate about 12 months ago and was about 3300-3500 calories and I’ve been consistently at 180 lbs. I don’t drink hardly at all anymore and am seeing lots of gains and PR’s. Haven’t really changed my diet other than way less booze haha.
