All in all it does everything I want it to do. Parked in my garage, I use my home wifi. On the road, I use my phone as a mobile hot spot, and my unit for phone calls, music, gps navigation, I can watch movies, surf the web, diagnose codes with OBDI, ... All my steering wheel controls work as before since the unit automatically learns the buttons on the steering wheel.

one more thing...I tapped into my backup reverse camera. That works too. It now displays on my head unit and the rearview mirror.

Biggest headache was getting the unit to fit in the dash kit. The dash kit is too small by a couple of millimeters in width, and slightly too small in height by 0.5 mm. I actually had to have a good friend of mine mill it out to make it look clean.

I am happy given the price point for a full Android unit.

Does that joying model have pre outs for an amp? What is the exact model number maybe a link on their site?

    Looks awesome.

Any chance you're using it with an amp and sub?

Did you get your steering wheel controls to work? I'm guessing the wiring for it is in the Hilux wiring harness.

There's a pretty big thread on the older Joying units here in the audio section.

No I am not using it with an amp or sub...I just use it with the stock speaker system (still sounds better than stock).

Yes, it works with the steering wheel controls. The unit has a learning mode that is simple to program to the unit. So there was no other hardware to make it work. The Hilux harness is perfect and attaches to the existing connections in the truck. Yes, the wiring harness has all the steering wheel wires in it...it is called the "keypad study" in the last image I posted.

This Joying unit is based on the PX5 Rockchip octacore processor. The previous big thread is based on the Intel Sofia processor, I believe. The one I have is 2GB 32 GB octacore, not quadcore. They now have an even newer 4 GB unit that just came out in the last week.

I've been looking to replace my head unit for a while. I have the Gracenote/Entune piece of crap. This looks like a pretty nice option. Is it pretty responsive when you press buttons? And how reliable is connectivity with your phone, as far as Bluetooth/music streaming?

The one I have has gorilla glass like touch screen; it would probably better if you get the 4GB version that just came out. As for as bluetooth music streaming from the phone, it has been reliable for me. I, however, have put most all my music on the SD card slot it came with. That has been rock solid.

Just some dumb regular crap everyone else has
I have an older Joying HU, my main problem is the crappy FM reception. How's the FM reception compared to the stock HU? Mine is so bad that I don't even listen to the radio anymore. Most other features seem good though.

The FM reception on my Joying is on par or equal (not better) to the reception I had with my stock radio. I live in mountainous area with line of sight direction to most of the radio stations where I live come from Albuquerque which is 90 miles away.

Hi Joying users, I just got the 2GB/8" version installed and it is a huge upgrade from the old Android head unit I had. I am having problems with the microphone though, how it is supposed to work? Is it only for Bluetooth or does Android recognize it as well for voice commands? I have an email into Joying, but figured I may get some information here too. Thanks!

If anyone ever has this issue...make sure you really use force to connect that external mic...it needed to snap in about 1/16" more of an inch, but once it did, it worked awesome. Very happy so far with the unit.

Are you referring to the built-in mic on the unit? That's what I use, and it works for both bluetooth phone and navigation.

Do you have a link for the hilux harness? I've had my Joying in for about a year and never got the wheel controls working (I had a different harness from another radio and it won't learn the controls). Love mine!

The Hilux wiring harness greatly simplifies the mating of the truck's connections (by using the existing connectors on the truck) to the head unit. Otherwise you will have to be making your own soldered quick-connect connections. IMO, buying the Hilux harness is worth the extra $17 to save the headache of making your own.

on the Hilux harness the steering wheel controls (two leads) are labeled Key1 and Key2. You also have to have a headunit that allows for the controls to be programmed on the unit. Pretty easy to program the head unit to learn the controls.

Ordered! Thank you! My older Joying does indeed support learning the controls.
