Duratrac vs KO2

My Duratrac’s haven’t gotten too loud yet. I’m quite pleased with the tread wear though. I have 20k miles on mine and they’ve only worn 2/32 so far.

 

Are the Duratrac's noisy as they start to wear down or is that only while taking turns? I had General Grabber AT2's on my Silverado and they were fine but did make a little noise on turns.

 

I don't notice much noise. Yes, they probably produce a little more than a highway tire, but not near as much as a mud tire. What noise I do notice is when taking a decent curve at a decent speed, but it's not objectionable.

 

Looking for experience with either tire. Daily driver, offroading on weekends (Michigan = mud, clay, snow, wet roads, sometimes even dry & hot.

Picking up 265/75R16's in either GoodYear DuraTrac or BFG KO2. What say you on those two choices?

 

EVERYONE has KO2's, I like the look of the duratracs, I personally would go for them.

Duratrac. On my second set love them. Ko2 hydroplane to easy and gets just as loud as they get older.
I will admit yes the duratrac is a bit noisy but really not that bad .

 

Just ordered a set of 265/75R16 KO2 for my baby. $795 for all 4 installed & old GYs disposed of. Getting installed on Monday. The guru said he has installed both DuraTrac and KO2 and the KO2 owners are always happier for year-round performance and Michigan offroad use. My son has a set on his QX4 and they have been phenomenal.

 

After a fair amount of snowy driving this winter, I can honestly say the K02 suck ass as a snow tire. No matter what PSI you run, these things are squirrelly. The stock Goodyear Kevlar Adventures were more confidence inspiring.

The k-bros look really great, and are quiet, but, not worthy of their “sno-peak” rating. Will be ditching these things before next winter. Going to seek out some Duratracs.

 

I've had both. KO2s had less balancing issues and were quieter. Duratracs are a more capable tire off-road and in the snow. That being said, after several winters in Jackson, WY, and Leadville, CO (commuting over an 11,500' pass to work each day), both were an acceptable tire in the snow. However, neither tire stands up to a studded snow though. A 265/75 Firestone winterforce with studs is worth every penny on a spare set of rims.

Just pulled the trigger on a new Quicksand OR DCLB, so I'm facing the same dilemma: quieter, better highway manners KO2, or more capable (but kinda fickle with regards to balancing, and noisy) duratrac? The price per tire may be the deciding factor.

 

Finally able to get the KO2s off road and they did very well. The terrain was sand, rock, and dry here in the desert.

 

I havent run the KO's on the taco, but I did run 255/85 16 that were siped on my daily driver FJ. I had no problems with them rain/sun/snow on or offroad. They wore very well and look forward to trying them in the same size if i ever decide to lift the Taco. I just removed the duracraps off my taco after 8000ish miles. They worked well offroad and relatively well during our mild winter here (Salt Lake), but their on road performance, NOISE, and rough ride are far worse than anything i experienced with KO's (I know, different vehicle).

 

I'v done duratracs on 33s and 35s. Not a single complaint.

 

The set of Ko2 that i had, hydroplane scary bad. Unsafe to drive bad. Could never find a psi that made a difference.

The 4 sets of duratracs I've owned have all been good on road and off-road. Only ever had a issue with 1 tire once.

I feel like the ko2 are one of the best performing tires out there (for me). I drive mainly highway, dirt roads, desert, rock, and snow and I’ve never had an issue and traction is fantastic. The Ko2 does very well in the snow as does the Duratrac (keep in mind they are not to be mistaken as purpose built snow tires). Road noise is less with the ko2.

As with any tire, make sure you run the correct pressure for the terrain and rotate frequently. I got about 30k out of my last set of ko2 and they still had 50% of their tread left.

That said, I can’t get my current set of ko2 to balance. Hopefully the warranty replacement set will be better.

 

Im looking to get rid of my stock tires and go up one size to 265/75/16. Which tire is generally considered the best all around tire between the two?

KO2's. But Duratrac's aren't bad either. I have KO2's. My sister has Duratrac's on her Ram EcoDiesel.
