I really think too many people get hung up on the rear brakes being drums. They work fine.

With good reason. Discs are a significant upgrade over drums, especially if towing, or if you have armor/big tires, or even carry stuff in the bed regularly. Brakes only have to fade one time to learn this lesson the hard way, and I came damn near it while towing my 850 the first time which was why I decided bringing my brakes into the 21st century was a good idea! For some it may not be a huge concern but like I said it only really takes one time of the brakes NOT doing what you expect to change your mind

My wife has a new Lexus RX350 and she drove my new Pro a day or two after I purchased and she commented how much she liked the way the brakes felt, which I noticed too. I assumed there were discs on the rears based on how well the braking felt. So I was surprised to find there were drums on the rear since the braking felt so good, but I had no complaints and this does not bother me.

Tacomas stop just fine and if this bothers you then purchase another brand.

But purchase with caution because my friend has a full size GMC with disc on all fours and he loaded the bed with sheets of plywood and had to slam on his brakes and rear ended the car in front because he couldn’t stop in time based on the weight and not paying attention. Now maybe if he had some type of sensor to alert and to stop and help brake maybe he could have avoided an accident. :annoyed:

    Didn't read the whole thread.

A friend of mine is a construction estimator and once told me
"Everyone wants it done quickly, the best quality, and inexpensive, best case you only get two out of three", lol.

Maybe the same with vehicle manufacturers- everyone wants the latest technology, cost competitive, and reliable- I would prefer to have reliable and cost competitive, and don't want the latest tech.

GM seems to be constantly updating- maybe that is why their reputation for reliability is not the best?

Well said. After I watched the latest press release I realized Toyota’s ego has gotten way to big. They consider themselves a tech company (not a vehicle manufacturer) that rivals Google and Apple. In the coming years we will see them develop products of that nature. Vehicles will be more or less cash cows for their dream of ultimate connectivity.

Because drum brakes have an enclosed design, when the brake cavity gets wet due to rain, floods, or driving over a puddle, the water cannot be expelled right away. The collected water can reduce the frictional properties of the braking system, and this can be dangerous because the vehicle has a decreased stopping ability. Disc brakes are superior, just not necessary.

I believe the engine will prove solid. They did however ruin the transmission trying to satisfy the EPA. I get borderline upset with it unless I drive with ECT on. I do have 33s which exacerbate the issue, but instead of having to use ECT to be happy, I wish they put an ECO button on it to satisfy the soccer moms who care more about mpg than performance.

Nothing will happen until the Tacoma starts losing market share. Toyota has proven this in the past. The last Tacoma was basically the same truck for like 12 years?
Let's hope the new ranger makes a dent in sales and lights a fire in Toyota to get some of our wants and concerns addressed. Because as it sits right now, the Tacoma is destroying everyone.
I would be so embarrassed to be Chevy. They come out with two trucks with varying options and styles in order to try to get as much sales as they can and Toyota just sits there with their one truck makes them look stupid.
At some point you would think Chevy would ask themselves why this is happening. Maybe quit making garbage? That would be a good start.

Drum brakes all day long. The amount of mud caked on my drums would have caused endless problems for discs. Toyota knows what they are doing with the drums. The only reason people dislike drums is they look bad. It's all fashion. I do not want discs on the rear of my truck

Or throw some Stoptechs on the front and call it a day.

The fact of the matter is, rear brakes just don't do that much stopping. The front does most of the work, so by upgrading the front you'll see the best performance increase. I personally like the fact that I don't have to worry about pads on the rear.

After my first taco I realized they don't have the newest and greatest. Toyota continues to use proven tech, if it's not broke don't fix it mentality.

And no matter how much folks bitch, cry and whine about what they think Yota should have done, folks are buying the shit out of them.

My question for folks, if you are not happy with your taco, why did you buy it? You told Toyota that they are doing things right because you gave them your money.

Toyota really cares about your lost business..:jerkoff:. Best selling midsize truck for a reason. You walking away will make no difference. Thanks for posting another, "Wish Toyota would change this.." Thread.

I'm happy with the truck. But when I bought it, I didn't really see anything else that was appealing. Frontier--meh. Typical Nissan build quality. GM -- double Meh.

Had the new Jeep truck and Ranger been on the market, I would say it would've been a more tough choice. I would've probably still gone with the Tacoma since I don't trust FCA and Ranger is new to market. Plus can't complain about the Taco resale.

Driving through mountains is fine. Does it like to stay in a higher gear? Yeah. If I really want to, I throw it in Sport and put it in 4th or 5th and leave it, no ECT. I never use that..
