    Greetings,

If this has been asked I apologize. I've searched for the thread but couldn't find anything.

What I'm looking to find out is how much a difference there is between 1st gen and 2nd gen access/extra cab cargo space.

I want this area solely to store things and it's pretty much the only deciding factor between a 1st and 2nd gen for me. A couple of inches here and there in exterior dimensions don't really seem important to me.

Basically, can I store a considerable amount more inside of a 2nd gen with the access cab than I can store in a 1st gen with the extra cab, or is it like...one tent more?

Thanks for any help with this.

I think the main difference in this department is that the 1st gen access cabs didn't have the rear door. That would make it kind of a pain in the ass to get things in and out of there compared to a 2nd gen.

Yep, that was a biggy for me. I came from a '94 Mazda (same as a Ford Ranger) extra cab with no side opening rear doors. When I 1st learned that all 2nd gen Taco access cabs have both side opening doors, that sealed the deal for me. So easy to load a suitcase or groceries or whatever. If you want to retain the rear seats but still have the most cargo space, you want an '05-about '08. Don't remember the exact cut off date. Some '05-'06 had head gasket and motor mount issues, so in your case, it would be best to go with '07-'08. However, if you find the right deal on a newer 2nd gen, another option is to swap in the rear seats and back panel out of an older 2nd gen Taco.
