whoever, I get a bunch in fall when hunting season opens, just wondered if people want them I'd keep them rather than toss them in trash.

I save several duck (Woodies, Teal, Mallard & Blacks) as well as several ruffed grouse skins each season as well as a snowshoe hare here & there. The skins need to be properly cared for and dried thoroughly. I use Borax. I think I posted my process in this thread a while back.

I barter & trade for flies with the skins.

    Welcome to the thread
Gotta love fishing cuz it’s a lifetime sport lol kinda like falling off a bicycle :)

Anywho it seems to me a 5wt might serve u better for your stated objectives. I guess a 4 is out of the question cuz u already bought a reel lol

So many brands and price points I couldn’t begin to tell u which to choose other than redington reel so redington rod lol. Something 9’ for your nymphing and lake fishing plus not too extremely long for small streams.

can you salt them? I usually get at least 6-10 and wife gets about that many also. I just have to remember to open them up from the back as usually I open them from the front.

Not sure on the salt...check Google.

I find the Ruffed Grouse are sought after the least. Ducks are more popular.

Use Borax to dry them. Works way better.

I'll shoot you my info at some point tonight

Yeah I think a 5 will be good. I have a small Fenwick for stream fishing. Can't remember the length but real small. Love it.
I got the Behemoth reel yesterday. So I'll be hunting down a 5wt rod and what kind of line do you recommend? Weight forward?
I have a bunch of old scientific angler lines. I just don't recall the specs. I might reuse one I'm not sure yet.

What do you guys use for fishing still water?
Bass or trout. I have a sinking line for trout but its a pain in the ass to cast a woolybugger or anything a little heavy. On a 6WT rod.
Do i just need to suck it up?

mats, flaps, and stickers. Extang solid fold 2.0. Mobtown sliders and full skids. AVS vents
I generally roll cast with heavier offerings, and think a 6wt would handle sink tip and a bugger just fine. How heavy a fly are you casting?

i use an 8wt for bass it handles the bigger flies well, and i can pull the fish out of the weeds with no problems
