This one bugs me. Under normal driving, the trans shifts fine. However if I try to drop into passing gear on the interstate, it slips and revs around 4 1/2k until I let off the gas. Then it clunks into a higher gear. I've put a new filter and flushed the entire system. Ideas?
Edit: Hard acceleration from a dead stop is fine, too. Only when dropping a gear on the interstate

What year? Do you have the A340E or the older A340?

It's a '98 so it will have the early A340E. I know 2nd Gen 5-Lug 2WD's used the A340E as well. Tons of cars used that transmission, including the Supra.

Since you are both 2.7 that trans should bolt right up unless you modified it in someway?

The only thing that's different between the 3RZ and 5VZ A340E is the bellhousing. Otherwise they are identical.

They have supra ones on ebay built for 500+ hp for around 2000 bucks! I bought a brand new one hiding in a yota dealership for 2,500 bucks, my trans has 15+quarts o' mobil 1 syn its newish now and it's engaging late too, its indicative of shift solenoids theres about 3 or 4 under the pan it helps to ohm those out, mine were fine yet its still a pig my 33's must have put a hurt on the trans. If you drive in OD all the time it will screw the trans too, I was guilty of that w/my other one.

You keep OD off? I was under the impression you should only turn off OD when towing or hauling.

I keep it off under 45mph, no unnecessary shifting that way. also going up hills i turn it off to hold the gear instead of relying on the TC to go in and out all the time.

This, I run it up to 60 before I turn it on, saves gears literally.

I'm gonna try to keep this one going for as long as I can until I can throw a manual one in
