My 2005 4 cylinder is getting tired. I found a 2017 motor replacement but its not technically compatible with my truck, possibly due to it having both intake and exhaust VVT. Is it possible to make it work?

    Possible? yes.

    But not easily.

My guess is more wiring than wrenching skills would be required.

You would be just better of buying a new truck, its not worth the time and money swapping the engine, you would just better off selling your truck if its causing problems, and get you a reliable brand new 2018 Tacoma:spending:

Yea, 'cause $35k is what it takes to professionally refresh a tired motor anyway. Right?

I would just buy a diesel with manual transmission, swap, bolt your transfer to the tailhousing, and roll. $4500 free shipping out of dallas.

If you dont like that answer, then I would say if you can get the wiring harness, and ecm, then you could probably pull it off

If its coming from a wrecked truck pull the ecu and wire harnesses, not hard. Repining power windows/locks and such shouldn't be hard. If you got a manual try and get the R156 too

its gettin tired? or stopped working. Replace it with the 2nd gen 2TR and call it a day... not worth the time to swap with another dog of an i4.
