New muffler = loss in low end?

Just wondering for those of your who have changed out just your muffler to a flowmaster, etc. if you noticed a loss of low end torque due to the possible loss of back pressure.

Thinking of changing mine out (no $$ for a full catback right now). Do like a more throaty/deep sound, but don't want to take a loss in any performance. I did change the muffler in my old 1st gen, and did loose a bit on the low end..


any thoughts?

 

i have a flow master 40 series and i love once it broke in id says bout 1.5k miles it has a great throtly sound and i have noticed any loss or low end torque
ps. when i first had it installed it sound good but once it breaks in its it sounds amazing iv gotn a ton of compliments on the sound

 

So off the line from stop no difference or accel lag as compared to your stock?

 

i lost some low end with my flowmaster. not so much with my magnaflow.

 

Had same issue's replaced the Magnaflow with the stock muffler and the truck ran so much better, didn't have enough back pressure.

 

sorry for the bump, but I gotta believe there are more than three people that has changed their muffler. Maybe no one wants to admit the "flaws" of their decision... Would like some input before I make a bad decision..

 

I have heard you loose some power with the flowmaster. Thats why I got the dynomax. Its pretty quiet but sounds really good.

 

Go with a cat back system, go to Gadget's Paige.

I vote that a cat back is a waste of money. A replacement muffler will do you just as much good.

You have to trade off somewhere...It's about what you are trying to accomplish.
More Power thru the whole band might lose a little on the low low end.
Better sound (like flowmaster) can choke the engine and slow the exhaust pulses- killing off some power.

What muffler are you think about??

 

No issues at all with the Magnaflow on mine. Been on for almost 3 years.

 

I have a flowmasters and it sounds great but I have noticed I've lost some power gonna throw it out and try out the wicked flow.

 

Ran mine straight piped it dumped under the cab after the cat. It lost some low-end but I could achieve higher speed. Seems to be a normal trade off. Loss in Low-end = Gain in Top-end.

 

I have a 2010 Tacoma TRD 4wd Access Cab with a V-6 and manual 6 speed gearbox.

I replaced my stock muffler with a Magnaflow dual pipes out muffler. I had the pipes run straight out the back. After break-in, it sounds great to me. The only change in low end power was that I had more, not less. I tow a 24' travel trailer with it and it will start from a stop on a hill with the trailer on much easier than before I made the swap. I have more overall power with the Dynomax system than I did with the stock exhaust. In addition, the engine will rev easier and faster with the Dynomax muffler.

In my humble opinion, it was the best mod I could have made.
