I'd better start looking up dealerships in my area that have H1s for sale...

If the world as we know comes to an end, I need to know where I can steal one!

You're weird if you can tell me the differences between a 710K and 712M (or 710M and 712K). Then you're only as weird as I am. (710's are 4x4, 712's are 6x6, K's are hard side, M's are soft side). There was also a 712 that had a removable ambulance box in the back that looks like it would be a pretty cool bugout vehicle, but only if you got one of the more recent diesel engines. Their early diesels were naturally aspirated and lacking in the HP department. FWIW, for those that are curious, the 710's are within a couple of inches in every dimension except height and ground clearance as a 70's era VW bus.

Pinz tried to make an entry into the US market in the late 70's. I ran across a listing not too long ago with their show model.... here it is: https://www.pinzgauer.com/shpics.php?table=vehicles&idnum=173

I think Mercedes tried to bring the Unimog the US market, but not with the older styles. I think it was the U405, the one with the huge windshield. It wasn't in the market long. Just long enough for me to scratch my chin a couple of times thinking about possibilities. The main problem with the older 'mogs is that they're limited on the road by their portal axles. They have fast and superfast versions that are rated for higher speeds, but IIRC, the superfast still top out not much more than 65mph. The regular ones are lower, 45mph IIRC. It's been a while since I looked the numbers up.

Looks a lot like a "Mule" used by the US Army. I don't remember them having two foot rests or a passenger seat though.

As for me personally, I'd have a tough time choosing between a 712K or a Unimog Doka with the ambulance body on the back... similar to this:

I'd prefer one with the hatch over the passenger's seat so that my spotter could stay cleaner :)

So if an old Humvee is titled and registered in Mississippi, does that mean it can be transferred to another state?!?!

I saw one in Ocean springs every Sunday when I would deliver parcels for that post office, really made me jealous.

I don't see why it couldn't be as long as it's not a super restrictive state such as Cali.

Believe it or not, I don't California requires smog testing for diesel-powered vehicles!

I doubt it . other states have emissions and inspections you would have to pass those

Cali does require SMOG testing on diesels, started in the early 20-teens IIRC, I lived out there 18 years before I moved to the free state of Mississippi.

In Pennsylvania (where I live) diesel-powered vehicles are exempt from emissions testing. Safety inspections are required statewide, but most Humvees being sold to civilians as government surplus are probably old enough to be registered as antiques!

    IIRC?

Also, my uncle who lives in NorCal has a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins, and I remember him telling me that it had to get smogged...

California: A car guy's worst nightmare!

Don't know how many of you have spent time in Military HUMVEES, but they suck. Wouldn't drive one if you gave it to me.
