quick regear question

im runnin 285s on my 01 tacoma v6..... lookin at maybe goin 305s....would regearing to 4.88s do the trick for lost power??

 

whats your factory ratio? 4.88 seems too low for only 33's IMO.

 

I would go to like a 4.11 or 4.56 max

 

4.56 should put you back to about stock feeling power wise.

 

yep, same here. This is what i'm thinking, but with my 35's! I want to keep the r's down for better mpgs(I only lost like a mpg with the 35's vs old 32's), but pick up a little more snap that was lost with the big rubber.

 

its 4.10 factory

 

i know some guys who had previously gone with 4.88s...

they were burning quite a bit of rubber and had to gear back down to 4.56...

 

x2 what he said but one of my friend has 35s with 4.88s said the rpms are pretty high on the high way. Ill be going to 4.56 for my taco.

If you want to figure out your equivalent new gear ratio from larger tires, use this as a guide:

(New tire size)
------------- X (current gear ratio) = equivalent
(Old tire size)

 

I am running 305's w/ 4.88 gears. I really don't notice much until highway speed. The RMS are a little high while running 70 mph. The 4.56 gears will be as close to stock as you will get. 30 to 60 is where I can tell the differance. For a lot of city driving and off road I'd go with the 4.88's all day long. If there is a lot of highway miles 75% or more driving I might go with the 4.56's.

 

whats your rpm at going 70?

 

I think it is about 2500 (+ or -) a little. Mainly go by my Speed-O. 70mph on the dash is actually 60mph on the road. 83mph on the dash is 70mph on the road. The max speed is about 87 on the road. By that point the Speed-O is reading past 100mph.

I when on the highway I run around 65 mph (true speed). I have been averaging about 16.5 mpg.

 

how can you tell your ratio? have a 02 2.7 dc and im about to put 285/75/16s? any help would be awsome. Thanks

 

^ on the door jam on the driverside there is a sticker there, in the bottom right of this sticker you will see 4 digits like B03A which translates to 8'' ring rear,4.10 gears,2 pinion open. what does it say on yours?

 

mine says bo4a.

 

whats the difference between a 2 pinion open and a 4 pinion open?

 

so i would have to regear for 285/75/16s?
