I talked to AFE today, they said I am cleaning my filter too often and that instead of cleaning every 4,000 miles w/ oil change I should clean it every 15,000-20,000 miles o_O

All they could recommend is to buy their pre cleaner.

As much as I don’t want to I might just go back to the stock air box, R.I.P. boost

That's not possible. Mine was completely clogged at like 5k miles. It was so bad that the supercharger couldn't build boost. I cleaned it and added a pre filter hoping it works out better. My truck is strictly for off roading though.

    What ya got?

Mine isn’t all offroad but I do live on a dirt road, out on a bunch of farm land, the wind blows a lot, and I’m sure you see where I am going with this. The filter had a metric crap load of dirt in it when I cleaned it. I’m debated on getting a pre filter, the progaurd 7 filter, and then putting the volant scoop on it.
I really don’t want to go back to the stock air box.

Why didn't I think of that!!!

Modified solution: Don't stop driving fast until you hit pavement. Then you can slow down and stop. Pavement is like an invisible barrier that dust cannot follow you theough

Recently sold my modded 03 Tacoma to finance new mods for my 15 Pro...

    Just placed this order today:
    Magnuson SC - no tuning
    2.85 pulley
    URD deatchwerks fuel pump kit
    DT Shorty headers
    URD Competition Ypipe
    AFE 2pro dry intake

    Need to order:
    Speedhut boost and AFR Guage
    Vibrant hi-flow cats

My OVTUNE handheld is waiting on ECU setup.

Question - If I get everything installed before my OVTUNE is ready, is it safe to crawl the truck at low speed/rpm to my dealer about 25 miles for the TRD flash?

Both dealers closest to me said they could do the flash. Quoted $110 and $185

If I'm lucky, OVTune will have my ECU setup before I install the SC and I won't even have to mess with TRD flash ...just exploring my options

Apparently the dealers still have access to the Tech Stream reflashing program and TRD SC calibrations

Of course, it’s running rich without the TRD flash, but not rich enough if you boost it, like said twice. You can drive normally.

So my ultra gauge just threw a "Pending P0500" code. On the surface this is a Speed Sensor issue. I have done a little digging and looks like possible causes are: "vehicle speed sensor is open or shorted between instrument cluster and ECM" (not sure if that is the case since the speedometer is registering when I drive), "Defective instrument cluster", "defective ECM." I found this info on yotatech.com https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/cel-p0500-163544/

The UCON wouldnt affect the ECM in anyway would it? Trying to find where he speed sensor is located, apparently there is one on the eng and xmsn??? Also saw some people mentioning the VSC (vehicle skid control), im about to go check that connection.

    "P0500 is speed sensor malfuntion

    possible trouble area:
    1. open/short in VSS circuit
    2. vehicle speed sensor failure
    3. instrument cluster problem
    4. ecm"

Also from yotatech.com. If anyone can weigh in on this I'd appreciate it????

EDIT: I am also hearing a weird ticking noise which speeds up as I speed up. . . .gonna get under the truck and investigate. Will return with observations...

UPDATE: not sure how often these trucks have "gremlins" but I suspended the alarm on the UG, drove 2.5 miles to get gas (did not hear the ticking noise this time, but I also re clipped once of the splash guards on the driver side infront of the coilover maybe it was contacting the CV as it spun???). Upon restarting the truck and driving home, the alarm did not sound again. . . hmmm.

When I got home, I crawled under and unplugged each wheel sensor (saw somewhere that the tire speed is taken from the rear tire sensors and transmitted to the flux capacitor to help get speed, not sure if that is true [the tire sensor piece...I know all the knowledge of the truck is held in the flux capacitor]). one of the sensors emptied some dirt out of the connector, other than that all checked out/looked good visually. I wiped off the part that physically plugs in (the female side of the plug). Gonna let the truck sit off for a while and restart/drive around the neighborhood to see if I get it again. The initial time, the pending code on the UG triggered within driving 20m from my driveway. I drove the truck last yesterday and had zero issues. Also, the speedometer was still seeming to function properly and it shifted on time and RPMs looked good. Fuel and temp needles on the gauge cluster also all functioned, which to me rules out any cluster wiring issues.

Ill update after my drive in about 2 hours.

If you guys have any input feel free to add.

Just drove the truck 2.7 miles. started out slow neighborhood driving. let the sc whine as much as I could (10 mph to 60 in no time...then I had to slow 'er down fast). No pending codes from UG, speedometer worked fine, rpms, shifting, etc all were good.

I know helicopters sometimes just "wake up stupid" and have gremlins from time to time. Not sure if this is an example of it or if there is more going on. For now, it's good I guess haha
