A couple days ago I got a promotional email from Toyota for their March event offering 0% financing on 2018 tacomas. I thought damn they must be trying to move some trucks.

This morning I got another email from them with the same title as this thread. Basically said “uhh yeah that was a mistake, check our website for the actual deals”. 0% financing only for the 2017s.

I got quite the chuckle out of this. Anyone else get these emails?

That's still pretty good for Tacoma. I sure as hell didn't get 0% on my 2017.

Got 1.79% with my credit union. Only way I would have gone with Toyotas financial is 0% and they sure as hell weren't handing that out when I bought mine.

Me neither, but I’m pretty sure they’ve been offering it since the new year.

Lately I've been getting offers to "trade" for a 2018, with a new 72 month loan for $30 less! The kicker is I've paid off half my truck already, lol, don't think I'll be taking them up on that offer and losing 20K! Gotta love it.

Unfortunately there's people who fall for that and think that they are getting a better deal because they are paying less per month.

Enough people fall for it. I've seen it on here many times. People bragging that they got into a new truck for less than they were paying like they pulled a fast one on the dealership, lol .

Yup, just like the scam emails, there is a reason why they keep doing it. Enough suckers out there.

This is why I keep saying that Toyota isn’t in as good of a position as they claim. The remnants of all these 2017’s to me suggests that Toyota was over ambitious when manufacturing the 2017 Tacoma’s. I have never seen such great incentives Tacoma’s as are available at the current time.

I know everybody keeps saying record sales year blah blah blah.... But all the incentives and remaining 2017’s says otherwise. My local dealer still has at least 4 2017’s on the lot. If they were selling so well then why are so many left over?

I could have gotten an amazing deal on a 2017. I wasn't about to get a vehicle without adaptive cruise or leather so I'm still waiting on my truck and paid more. I can't be the one.

Because no company has a real live fortune teller. No magic crystal balls. Some years, they under produce, some years, there is surplus. And FYI, sales numbers has nothing to do with surplus inventory.

I beg to differ. Manufacturing is definitely based on projections and previous sales numbers. You don’t manufacture 1,000,000 trucks (hypothetical numbers) if you have been shown to only sell an average of 650,000 each fiscal year. It’s simple math.

Personally I think some excuse on Toyota’s behalf would be that many potential customers have opted to purchase the 18’s due to enhanced safety features which has added value for insurance rates etc.

I totally agree with your reasoning. I put that in my other response before reading your quote. I didn’t want or need the technology, but there is a need for it for many buyers who want the added safety.

Every time i buy a new vehicle i ask if theyll match my credit union. When i show them the papers they just laugh and say go with them.

Uh, you were talking about record sales numbers--which is true, they are selling well. Remaining inventory does not affect sales. Sure, they will cut back production to best match future sales projections. But that has nothing to do with the sales numbers.

I don't think they will cut back overall. what they will do is build more of the more popular trims and not the ones that they are not able to sell.

Infortunately, the standard SR I believe is one of the least sold trim to normal consumers.
Most of the time they are ordered and bought in bulk for fleets.

I will one day want to buy an SR and build it. Hopefully Toyota still sells it.

I don't know sales by trim, but like any business, they definitely should produce more of what's selling. But from what I understand, most of the remaining models seem to be ones with most options? At least talking to my local dealer. '17 SR's are nowhere to be found. Around here anyway.
