Any pictures of a Rooftop Tent (RTT) mounted on bed bars with a truck box?

Looking to purchase a rooftop tent and mount it on bed bars like those offered via All Pro Offroad. Does anyone have a setup like this? Any pictures? My biggest concern is the length of the annex room. With the lower bed bars most of the annex room would be laying on the ground. I may be able to customize if needed.

Thank you in advance for any advice or input.

I don't follow what you're suggesting. I AM looking at bed bars that can be removed/installed whenever using the RTT. I'm basically looking for a setup where I can leave my truck box installed, add bed bars and mount a RTT. Just seeing if anyone has photos of a setup like this.

Those bars didn't look like they mounted to the bed rail system, but I'm prolly wrong..

There's several vedors here that sell them ...

Most RTT's have a track system on the bottom so you should be able to mount the bars your looking at as close or far apart as needed within reason yet still be able to properly support the tent. If you have a short bed truck this will be more difficult and the height of the bed bars will come into play as you may not be able to open your box lid fully because it will run into the bottom of the tent. I would suggest a bar with a minimum of an 8" rise. I ran a Kobalt mid size low profile box (12"W (front to rear) x 13" H) with Relentless Fab bed bars that had an 8" rise and my lid would open but only about 7". Obviously higher bars would allow more opening.

I have a long bed so I've got a little more wiggle room. Do you have any pictures of your setup?

The OEM box is 19" deep I believe (I'd have to measure again) so a 48" long setup should work. I'm just looking to see how this setup looks. I don't want the tent too low, but I don't think I can get as much height with the bed bars as I would with say a pack rack.

Don't have any with both box and tent but here's the tent and bars. All I did was removed the front bar altogether then move the RTT and rear bar back some. Tent is 56" front to back and 48" left to right (closed).IMG_20170921_124248415_HDR.jpg

Ahhh ok, I follow. Hmmmm....thinking about this more I may entertain the idea of having a rack made for my application.

In short, I'm looking for a solution that will allow me to open the truck box, but also mount a rooftop tent. Most of the racks on the market are either too short or too narrow to allow the truck box to open completely. The bed bars are a good idea, but with the average length (front to back) of a RTT I'll have to get creative.

    I appreciate the feedback!

Ok...let me see if this will work. I'm new to "adding photos" to threads. And apologies...I'm no graphic designer.

EDIT: I should mention that the second picture is obviously a short bed, but you get the idea.

The lid on your toolbox is square, this won't allow the toolbox to open all the way correct?

If the risers are "outside" of the truck box and extend vertically far enough then the lid should open just fine. The issue with most racks are 1) the risers angle in too far to allow the lid to open and 2) there is usually a brace across the top running the length of the truck bed, which would prevent the lid from opening all the way.

Based on the dimensions of your box lid, the risers are going to have to go straight up to a point above the cab for the lid to operate.

You can support the RTT with just two risers eliminating the need for the one over/near the box.

This was my initial idea. The concern with the bed bars was that with an annex room and the low height of the bars the annex room would be piled up on the ground with little to no room to stand up. I just picked a rack up from @Korndog1284. I'll be looking to do some modifications to the rack to get this damn truck box to work. I'm a few weeks out, but I'll post pics of the finished product along with a write up.

Since he can't provide any reference. Here's an example OP of bed bars that attach to the bed rail system. I believe you'd need more support though for a RTT.

Your exactly right about the annex. Hope your new rack works out as you need it to. Looking forward to seeing how your mods come out.
