dude, that is clean. now that you have a truck, reliable at that, if you ever need another vehicle you can get a toy, or a daily commuter and let your truck be just for truck stuff. You’ll never need to get rid of this.

No question, keep it! Like others have said, complete maintenance records since new and a one owner is almost unheard of. Great looking truck!!

ive had zero issues with my 05 given it does have low mileage but im not really worried about the head gasket. your on a site with thousands of people and most problems usually get beat to death on this site. also since they aren't doing frame replacements come may 2018 I really wouldn't want to buy a newer second gen on the gamble that the frame is shit

My vehicle before this was a 97 Jeep lifted n ment for abuse. So this truck is truck was my savior from cold soft top winters and loud tires and ruff ride. So that is now the toy. I do plan on lifting my truck now and wheels and tires though

That dent would be easy for a PDR guy. Mine had a similiar dent. There's easy access through the cubby hole in the bed.

okay first off before you read on this is a debate wheather I sell my 2005 4.0 6speed for a still 2nd gen Tacoma maybe 12 and up or keep it. I don’t want any negative comments so if you don’t feel the need to comment nicely I’m giving the chance to exit off and if you care to read here i go.

I bought a 2005 4.0 6 speed 4 door short bed trd sport in November of 2017, I have never owned a Tacoma before I always had jeeps. I have also been a fan of Tacoma’s and I always wanted one. I have the luxuary of my grandpa and ucncles who own a car lot and get to go to multiple auctions. So they stumbled apon my truck. My uncle gave me a call and told me about this truck. He got a good deal because of auction price.
It’s exactly what I was looking for, 4 door 6speed 4.0 and short bed.
Now about the truck: it had 165,000 on it when my uncle bought it. It came from a Toyota dealership when the original owner traded it in for a brand new Tacoma. My uncle has all service records from the truck since it had 8 miles on it. The only owner even kept all his paper work for service and the original order forum he had when he wanted the truck. (I also looked on Toyota owners and have everything also) this guy had it serviced at the dealer every 5,000 miles all the way until he traded it in which was at 164,000. It has the new frame also that was done at 155,000.

So it was good everything checked out and I truthfully didn’t know of any serious problems with these trucks my cousin has one and loves it and I jumped on it and bought it.

After buying I joined Tacoma world and started reading about the 05s having some issues like mostly I’m worried about head gaskets. ( no I checked there not blown as of now) I’m just worried that it might happen. I already changed the steering rack and am going to need new shocks since they are stil stock shocks. I’m mechanically able to do most things like it needs a throw out bearing so I am able to change the clutch but getting into head gasket is a little out of my comfort zone but Any other mechanic work I can do I’m not worried about.

So my question is this is the exact Tacoma I am looking for if I bought a new one I would want the same thing maybe a different color. But should I ditch now with 170,000 and know I can make a couple grand or is it stupid to move on to a newer 2nd gen when I have one already. I might just be paronoid witch I accepted already but I just want some expert opinions. It’s hard to find these trucks in my area for a good dollar they are like gold for some reason in northeast PA. So am I actually gaining anything buy moving up in years or no not really and I should stop worrying. I’m open for discussion just please no negative comments. Thanks for reading!

My vote is to trade it in for a 13-15 double cab 6spd. You wont have to worry about the head gaskets, and the 6speeds were revised in the later model 2nd gens since the earlier ones developed problems with the synchros after higher miles.

I mention a 13-15 because the 2012s were the first year with the air pumps for emissions. If you dont want the air pump crap at all, just try to find a 2011 6spd. Youre going to have to be patient though im afraid, as double cabs w/ a 6spd are hard to come by. Sounds like with your contacts it may be easier though

I did, there’s also a chip taken out of the driver side mirror, he musta hit somthing hard enough to brake the glass cuz I have a service record from April 11th 2014 when he replaced the glass haha. And there’s a scratch in tail gate but it’s over 10 years old I expect somthing to be dented or scratched truthfully

I didn't read the whole thread..

I'd agree with post number 2. Keep your money and fix it as you need to. Even if you have to do headgaskets later on down the road it's still cheaper than buying a new truck

The difference in value between an '05 and a '13-'15 is at least $10,000. Just sayin. So, unless you've got an exta $10K burnin a hole in your pocket, keep that really nice lookin truck and fix it as needed.
